I have SW visa, Amex Hilton and Ink business from last year. I am looking at the Marriott Rewards offer of 80k. Is this the best I'll find for Marriott?

I have a week long Marriott stay that will be 100% reimbursed to me and will cost about $1600. I'm thinking with this card and added user and 5x bonus from that stay I should be at 95000 pts with only needing $1500 of spending.

I think the 80k is highest I've seen but there may have been higher. Are you always staying at Marriott? If so, it's a good card for you. If it's only this one time and you like other hotels maybe consider the CSP since you can use it for Marriott and Hyatt.

ETA: You have the Ink Plus so I guess you don't need the CSP but the Chase gurus can step in to say for sure

Definitely CSP if you are only trying to get 1 card. 60K UR > 95K Marriott. Do you have a specific redemption in mind? With the earning power of Ink and the quick 60K from CSP you are well on your way to some free flights.

But then again - I value free flights over free hotel nights because you can always find a cheap hotel but not a cheap flight. But that's just me. If you think differently and want to go for a hotel card then I would suggest Chase Hyatt but then again with Chase Sapphire you still get 2 nights at top tier hyatt (almost, need 60K you get 59K) with the flexibility of spending the points somewhere else if needed. You could always go for both since Chase combines same day hard pulls into 1. If you stay at Marriott a lot then go for Marriott obviously. Although personally I would still put the spend on CSP since imo 2x UR > 5x Marriott.

BUt to answer your Q - yes this has been the highest bonus on this card.

Sho Nuff - I replied to your email.

Good luck!

Where in Thailand are you going?
Who do you want to fly and in what class?
How long are you going?

I don't recommend point stays in Thailand generally, but there are exceptions.

I wouldn't use SPG points in Asia, but I'd definitely get cards now.

The best first class airlines fly in to Bangkok so you have plenty of options.

Looking at Thailand myself for next January.

Anyways, I'm looking to do a purchase on my Chase Sapphire and do a balance transfer to a new one. What card would benefit me the most? I already have a Chase Freedom.

Chase slate? 1 free balance transfer within 60 days of opening account and 0% APR for 15 months.

Are you looking to do this all on points? Chase slate won't really help you with that.

I think we will do 2 days in Bangkok and 7 days on the beach. (Phuket maybe?)

I like to get the most from points so i doubt i use first class/business class unless i get great value.

The restorts aren't expensive so if i just get the flights free i can deal.

I didn't spend any time in Phuket. Depending on what time of year you go is what side of Thailand you do. Gulf of Thailand or Andaman Sea.

Then you have to decide what kind of island you want, party and tourists, more authentic, diving, etc.

It gets a bit overwhelming

I'd like a beach spot thats beautiful and has access to a bit of everything TBH. While we aren't college kids anymore, we do like to go out once or twice on vacay, and being in a foreign place we'd like to see the local stuff as well.

Are the beaches/water comparable on both sides?

Sorry, we just zeroed in on Thailand and don't have enough facts to give specifics.

Tezza Blog

I ran across this blog that I found helpful. Some info may be outdated because he updates islands he has actually been to when he goes.

You have something around 20 options. I'd just start working my way through them. Either side can be stunning.

Perhaps go t Tripadvisor and find the rankings as well to familiarize yourself with the names. Some spots are amazing yet you can't stay on them, like the Similians. So you really have to discuss with your wife what ya'll want to do and try to find the one that checks the most boxes, as no island I found checked them all for us. That's why people have more time than Americans island hop a lot.

I would do 2 nights in bangkok, 4 in phi phi and 3 on koh samui. Bangkok is cool, phi phi has amazing beaches. Koh Samui for island life. Resorts are all very reasonably priced. Do the boat tours on phi phi. They take you around to all the small islands and islets. Try to get on a "long talay" or long tail boat. On Koh Samui do the all day land tour one day and all day boat tour the other. We did both and we were very impressed. We didn't buy any of this in advance. There are tons and tons of local "travel agents" on the islands where you can haggle. We easily get at least 40% off when we bought everything.

Phuket is very touristy. Phi Phi is mostly what you see on pictures on the internet.

This seems like a nightmare transfer from Phi Phi to Samui

How long did it take you?

By the way, didn't know it was pronounced Pee Pee until I got to Thailand.

Yes and no. I really enjoyed the entire trip actually. We took a quick and cheap 65$ flight on Thai from Phuket to Surath Thani then boat to Samui. The landscape is amazing and like I said I really enjoyed it. When I'm in a new country I actually don't mind non-air transfers that much for this reason. I try to avoid air as much as possible because then you miss most cool things. It took us about 12h to complete the entire trip. Think the boat from Surath Thani was about 3h and land transfer was another 1.5h. Flight was 4.5h including 1 stop in BKK.

I still call it Fee-Fee. Pee Pee sounds weird and I can't be going around recommending unsuspecting travellers to go to a "pee pee" island

No. more Hilton than anything else. Just thought this might be an easy way to bank a few nights for later without much heavy lifting. Should end up with about 95k total with app and this one stay. I just want to get the most bang for the buck. I'm working that INK card pretty hard and will need more UR next year. Any luck with waiving the fee?

No. They will not waive the fee on Ink and CSP. Those are pretty popular products. But its so worth it to pay the AF on the Ink.

95K Marriott points are really not a whole lot tbh. If you really want to, then go for the Ritz carlton card. 2 free nights at a cat 1-4 ritz. Also all the other cards I suggest will also give you two free nights at top category hotels. 95K marriott will give you 2 nights at mid tier.

The Ritz card also gives Marriott gold status so free Marriott room upgrades. It also gives multiple Club Level upgrades if you stay at a Ritz Carlton hotel. $10k spend a year maintains the Marriott status.

Not necessarily. Would like to grab build up useful points. I had a good bit with Chase Sapphire and Freedome but used them. I know cashing out isn't the thing to do but it let me put a few thousand more down on the house I bought.

If balance transfer is a priority - go for Chase slate.

If it is not needed, I like to go for the points. Since you only have 2 chase cards, and due to the upcoming changes, I would recommend that you go for Chase cards first.

1) Chase Ink
2) SW Premier + SW plus (if you can find 50K offer)/SW Business (if you have a companion you always travel with)
3) Chase Hyatt
4) Chase United
5) Chase Ritz

Get any two out of the 5 above on the same day. A few days later, apply for 1 more. I would do Ink today, SWs in a week. Or Ink today, Hyatt + United in a week. #2 is only useful if you want to fly with someone for free for 2 years. Otherwise, throw that one out.

Make sure you can meet min spends.
