Sounds like he had a very thin credit file. Probably looks suspicious when a 30 year old person who hasn't had a credit card in 10 years decides to get one.
Pretty good system that they asked for that.

Unless you have other trade lines like mortgages and loans that 796 doesn't help as much as you'd like to think with a thin credit file. It can still be tough to get premium cards. Just an FYI.

I take it the arrival plus falls into the premium regime...

It's a good card. I've had it and I'll get it again. The sign up bonus makes it better than any double cash back card to hold for at least a year and usually up to 2 years if you so choose to pay the AF.

Have you tried to get another serve? I read of some success on FT recently for people who were shutdown. You can also just use the vgc to buy money order and send to pay off cc or in branch...that way you avoid depositing in a bank if that's a concern. I'd at least do that for the upcoming freedom bonus.

Please don't think I was being critical. I was not. You've entered the credit card game after the rules have changed yet again and they have changed dramatically in the past 12 months. Credit card applications need to be planned out and thought out thoroughly now to maximize benefits. The days of heavy churning are gone for now at least.

Yep. You can get Barclay products sign up bonuses over and over again. I'd keep the card for a year, cancel it, wait a couple months and get it again if you like the reward system of the card.

I've been reading that but I've had some stuff going on with my dog and we're probably moving so I'm just kinds being on the sideline for now.
