will cover,
I know you're a dave ramsey fan. Given the difference in interest rates, would he still recommend snowballing for this or would he suggest the obvious (pay off the 20% cc first)?

PAY CASH for the ring or pay off your debt first
PAY OFF THE DEBT FIRST. The borrower is always the slave to the lender. Too many people are caught up in credit card debt that can't afford to pay it off. If you have money to even attempt to pay for a ring out of your budget put it towards the debt first. Buy plastic stand in rings for the wedding and get married debt free. I had to pay off my wifes debt before we were married and in turn she didn't get the ring she wanted. But 6 months later we were able to finance our house and afford to have our first child.

I've actually heard Dave waiver differently on this several times. It really depends on the person and how much discipline they have or lack.

I know someone that took 5 years to pay off the ring (12k). She left him after about a year and half. She kept the ring
That someone you know is a HUGE pussy!!!
My girl's ring was pretty cheap(about 2 WEEKS salary lol), and she picked it out(and was about 3x BELOW the budget I gave her). I guess I got a keeper, LOL.
But even with a cheaper ring, if she ever bailed on me, that ring is MINE!!! No questions asked.

would it be wise
There is nothing wise about financing an engagement ring.

A judge with tell you what's yours in that situation.

My wife loves her diamond ring, but it's still a ridiculous custom.
I bought my wife a cheap diamond ring. I've often offered to buy her a bigger one. She always says "No, I want a pool."
But, honey, we live on a lake.
"I don't like the lake, I want a pool!"
But honey, our property is thick forest.
"Cut the damn trees down and build me a pool!."

picks it out and there are no future upgrades... 1 time deal.
Yeah, that doesn't happen. Women are much like raccoons, they are attracted to shiny objects. She will demand more jewelry. My wife is a hippie and has required the purchase of multiple diamonds.

If she were a real hippie she would want tourquoise.
Preferably made by real Native Americans... just before they died... of a disease introduce by the White Man. I'll go with Tuberculosis for $300, Alex.

LOL. SO true.
I will say, if she dumped me and tried to keep the ring, she wold pay for it, one way or another, she would pay.

A good friend of mine spent a bundle on a wedding ring several years back. After 5 years of bliss, she screwed around on him and a divorce ensued. He went over to her place to sign some paperwork, while there he had to use the restroom and while in bathroom, saw the ring in a dish. He stuck it in his pocket and left with it. Years later, he fell in love again and had those diamonds reset in a different band for a couple of hundred. Pretty ballsy move, but it paid off in the long run.
