I was in your shoes looking at the JGC, Toyota and some higher end lines as well. Ended up buying a Lexus GX, good value and great car. At the end of the day I just couldn't justify 45k for a Jeep or Explorer when just a step up got me into the lexus. Test drive one if you haven't already, it's one the last true luxury suvs in production.

Love my pathfinder. Best in class gas mileage and lots of room for row 2 and 3
Drove the pilot, explorer and 4Runner and glad we picked the pathfinder. 2.5 years old and not one issue

Would love to get a GX but the base is almost 51k. We do well for ourselves but not THAT well. I guess a used GX is always a possibility...

We have an almost 3 year old explorer and just took it into the shop Monday with 500 miles left on the warranty
It ended up being a bad cell in the battery, so I'd say it's been pretty reliable for us.
I was somewhat surprised but the battery replacement was covered under warranty. I was in and out in 30 minutes.

Lexus's CPO program is one of the best in the industry.
