Has anyone not been at their closing? My real estate agent says she can represent me and I can wire funds to the closing attn before I leave on vacation. Ok?

Have the closing attorney prepare a specific power of attorney for your designated agent to sign to buy this particular property.

No reason to wire the money ahead of time. Just process the wire the day of the closing while on vacation.

If you must wire money before leaving town and the closing attorney has a reputable office, they could hold the funds in their escrow account until closing.

I bought my current home from someone who was not present at closing. His agent was present and everything went through just fine.

Happens all the time.

Why can't you close when you get back from vacation?

I could wait to close but have a contractor who needs to start some updating.

It happens all the time. Shouldn't be an issue but make sure to let the title company know ahead of time.

If you trust your agent, I don't see a problem.

But I would want to review the closing documents myself (settlement statement especially) before authorizing her to sign.

And verify terms of the mortgage, interest rate and term, etc.

If you are taking out a mortgage, you will want to check with your lender to make sure of their power of attorney criteria.
