Bought my last 2 in Alabama...paid no sales tax at the time and then paid Louisiana sales tax on the cost of the car when I registered it here.

if you register the new vehicle in La you will pay your address' taxes but will lose any benefit of a tax credit on your trade(your trade would have to be registered in CA to get it anyway). with me not knowing the sales tax in CA im assuming its cheaper to do it in La but i may be wrong

I think it's likely you will have to pay sales tax in California. When you go to register in Lousiana, they will credit you for the sales tax you paid in CA and, if it's higher, you should end up paying no LA sales tax. If it's lower, you pay the excess.

Not sure if things are different with this being a new car purchase, but in general when you transfer cars from states that LA has agreements with you get credited for a certain amount of what you paid the other state, but I'm pretty sure you'll get hit up more than you're expecting.
