With what card?

Chase's deal has been said to only allow Chase CCs to do it. That is all I have to use so I can't confirm that myself.

Chase gift card link

The Giftcards you are looking for on a normal day look like this:

The Visa branded ones seem to load easier onto Bluebird than the Mastercard ones. I have only personally done the Chase route since that is free as of now.

The limit on the Chase deal is about $2,600 per card reportedly (every 30 days). I wouldn't over do it though.

As I caution, I only do this to pay bills I normally couldn't (I shouldn't be punished because my landlord doesn't take CCs but some New York City guy's does) and don't go out of my way to do so. Its up to you if you want to do more "nefarious" methods that are easily searched.

If I could do that to spend the 60K I would do it in a heard beat (Even if the fees negated the miles)

ETA: Can I buy a chase card with my Amex?

Some things I read say no, that only chase credit cards work, but I haven't tested it myself so you might just have to go through it and see.

ETA: Also be careful with Citi cards. Apparently they have a tendency to label these transactions as "cash advances" instead of purchases.

I've had Blue Sky and now Blue Sky Preferred for a loooong time. Ever since Amex released the Blue card. I love it. Our yearly vacation is always free for the most part from the points.

I know that the Capital One Venture is the new highly rated travel rewards card, but I'm sticking with Amex because of their customer service and offerings.

For trips, I use Amex Travel for their vacation deals. They have fantastic rental car insurance and credit monitoring services. Any service needs like new cards, questionable charges, and lost wallet have been taken care of swiftly and their CSR's are always great on the phone.

I'll be looking at upgrading to a better Amex card soon, but I have no complaints on the Blue Sky.

How much do you spend on it each year?

How much is your typical vacation?

I've had a regular AMEX Blue card since 2006 and I also opened a Hilton Honors AMEX a couple years back to use on all my business travel. I think I need to upgrade to one of the annual fee cards to really start maximizing the rewards (the Blue card especially seems almost worthless).

Would the Blue Sky preferred be the best card for me?

Given I don't need three AMEX cards, is there anyway I can "upgrade" one of my current AMEX cards to a Blue Sky or Blue Sky preferred?

Blue Sky gives you $100 credit for every 7500 points, but you do get double points on restaurants, travel, hotels, etc.

In 2012, the total charges were a little over $75k. We put anything and everything possible on the card, so it adds up fast. We got double points on a lot of that.

I usually redeem $800 to $1700 to take trips. In some cases, the points all go to airfare if it's a big trip. It's just for two people, no kids yet, so it's very easy to go to the beach or Vegas all on points.

The only disadvantage of Blue Sky is that you can't immediately use points to purchase the trips. You charge as you normally would, then submit a credit request the following statement period. So you need to be able to pay the bill before getting reimbursed. Most people don't like that, but I do. It helps keep things within budget.

I have a trip for Memorial Day that I will use points on. I will pay the bill for May out of pocket, then a credit will be put on for June. My June balance will be nice an low.

I'm a little confused on this part. So you charge the flight/hotel with your card, then go to the website when you pay your bill, and you can pay for the flight/hotel with your points? Then would you just pay the rest of the bill off with your money?

AMEX is giving you a statement credit worth however much you chose to use. Say buy a plane ticket that cost $500 in January, you pay the total $500 at that time. Once the charge hits your statement you request a statement credit that is applied to your account the next month, i.e. February.

January: $500
February: -$100
Total: $400

the Diesel is right. You need to pay it yourself first.

Example: I'm going to Biloxi for Memorial Day weekend (don't judge). I will use my credit card for the expenses and pay my month-end bill like I normally would on June 2nd. Some time in mid-June, I'll be able to log in and redeem my points for those expenses and get the $900 bucks I spent credited to my account balance. That'll take a load off of my June payment.

It's a bit tedious, but I'm used to it. At least you have 100% freedom to purchase travel through any vendor with Blue Sky. Many cards that allow you to pay with points up front also make you book through their travel services. It can be limiting, especially if you can find your own deals.

does that mean you get points for the reimbursed travel?
