Part of what he gets wrong is that he thinks there is no product involved with any of it

That boomer sure is mad. You could make the same argument about USD - We just made up trillions out of thin air. His whole point is moot early on when he talks about retailer accepting it as payment. If someone accepts it as payment, then it has value and that value allows you to buy physical things.

The US dollar
To us “It’s worth something, we promise.”
internally “hey go print some more of this shite”

He definitely appealed to authority with that argument as well
Just because Warren Buffet says something has no value it doesn't mean it has no value

he probably gets paid more to stir stuff up regardless

they can do very little to stop adoption, they might delay it but it’s coming either way
If they want to temporarily chase people to decentralized exchanges as we watch others gradually adopt this technology as a treasury reserve it’ll prove to be a bad move

watched that video, what a laughable analysis
“I still don’t get it; and neither do you!”
dude is coming across as an out of touch old dude that doesn’t understand the philosophy of why people like crypto and also doesn’t understand the underlying technology and so assumes nobody understands these things

I agree that maher is out of touch douche, but he's probably right on that quote. Id be very surprised if even 10% of the population understood basic concepts behind crypto.

“Of course I hate the Bitcoin success,” Charlie Munger says. “I should say modestly that I think whole damn development is disgusting and contrary to the interests of civilization, and I’ll leave the criticism to others.”

Good troll grandpaw Maher... the banks used to say crypto was the tulip bulb craze all over again, now they smartened up and are getting in.

I think more than that understand the principles of Austrian economics and sound money and the idea that scarcity is a key component to something holding value.
For those that want an understanding of how mining, proof of work, or cryptographic hash functions work there are abundant resources that go over it at a high level but this understanding isn’t really required beyond a high level to understand how the network is secured.
I think the ignorance problem is being solved gradually. And as people learn about the technology, many people become lovers of it and diversify into it.

maybe, but crypto monopoly money to most. there's no way more than that understands crypto has scarcity.

not saying there isn't a wealth of resources, just that Id be surprised if even 10% have gotten scratch the surface understanding of those topics, including how the networks are secured.

I agree, but probably at a much slower pace than you think. dont underestimate ignorance. crypto is becoming more mainstream, but conceptual understanding it is not as rapid. So Id be shocked if we even see 20% of the population having at least scratch the surface understanding of crypto conceptually in 5 years.

I see crypto as the biggest threat to the US dollar. And our governments control over the money supply. I honestly think they are gonna take measures to keep that threat from materializing at some point. Could be 10 yrs away, but would be surprised if you did not see more and more shitting on crypto moving forward.

genies out of the bottle for that one. if they were smart theyd work to adapt and utilize instead of shite on crypto

I have a very good idea why China is steaming along with CBDC and I am not going to say why I think that is so on here.

smart contracts transactions have potential to get more and more creative with information flow.

The fact that crypto is getting popular enough that someone like Bill Maher needs to comment on it is a very positive sign, regardless of his shitty opinion.
