Anyone have advice for land and getting ag exempt in Texas?

I’m looking to buy some acreage to build a home in a few years. Taxes are crazy and I want to get an ag exemption.
I know some people keep a few goats or bees. Anyone have any experience? New to buying land other than subdivision lots.

Puts some cows on it or lease it for grazing

Bump because I'm interested in this as well. Looking to buy some goats and get an ag exempt license for 20 acres in LA.

Does it already have ag exemption or are you trying to get it? If you don't want to mess with animals you can have the place baled by a neighbor or custom baler. This is the easiest route on your part. You can also get a wildlife exemption.

I don’t know how it works in Texas.
on my six acres in Hammond I have a ag exemption on sales tax for “agricultural supplies” because I have bees. All it took was some paperwork at the dept of agriculture and an annual renewal.
my neighbors have one because they have a horse
I’m not aware of any property tax break but again, I’m not in texas

Do not know about Tx but I bought some land in MS we use primarily for hunting and applied for and and got a USDA farm number for use as a tree farm. Since I don’t sell a cash crop I can’t get tax exempt on my chemicals, fertilize but do get tax exempt diesel and equipment. Its a weird breakout but you should be able to check with ag dealers and they can tell you the policy. I have to take a copy of my tax exempt cert with me when I buy some supplies.

We purchase 40 acres for hunting. We paid a company to develop and file a timber exemption. Cost to di this was $500. It has a metal barn which counts as an improvement and a camper, which does not impact taxes as it is still on the wheels. We dropped out tax burden from just over 3k/yr to $250/yr. Lasts for 10 yrs. To comply, I have to clear youpon, which I am doing anyway. So $500 saved me $2750+ year 1... Ag requires time and fencing and animals.... if you have timber, go timber exemption.
Note, this exemption amd ag exemption will not include a house... the house will be taxed as an improvement. It will only decrease the land valuation.

I do 250+ ag exemptions a year. Check with the county to see what they allow. There will be an acreage minimum, usually 10 acres. In order to get wildlife, it needs to be in a current plan and converted- don’t go this route.
Like already said, if you can do timber, do timber.
There will be other options if no timber. You will not get the exemption on the house unless it’s a homestead.
