Looking to refinance and needing to face this crap.

I have two: one is a rarely used credit card (Barclay's) I had an auto charge on it for like $15. My fault, but didn't pay for 3 months in 2017. Paid it off but dinged me.

Other is a medical thing I'm fighting. $500 charge that went to collections that i never saw. Insurance sent proof, I owed $25, paid it recently but still there. Not as worried about that just yet.

Any thoughts on the credit card one? I've read all kinds of stuff but kinda seems I'm screwed. TIA

The collection is hurting you more than a missed payment. of all the credit reports that I have seen (100s), the only thing worse than a collections item is a bankruptcy.

I don't do home loans any more, but if those are the only 2 things I saw I'd ask you for an explanation just like what you have above. Those shouldn't keep you from getting approved.

Having worked in this area, your only hope is to keep disputing it and hope they make a mistake. They have 30 days to respond to a dispute or they have to remove the negative hit.

As mentioned though, the collections should be your main priority.

I had this issue before my closing, ($5 phone case that got charged to an eBay "credit card" instead of pulling out my bank account).

I called and had the collector send a letter to the credit bureaus that debt was paid and account was closed. Rapid rescore had me back where I needed to be.

They may not send the letter on your behalf, in which case you ask them to send it to you and then you submit to the bureaus.

It was quite a stressful ordeal over a $5 transaction.

Thanks. It's annoying as hell. I should have dealt with it a long time ago. $15 3 years ago. Not had much luck just yet. The charge is from Barclay's direclty

That's probably better. I dealt with eBay directly for mine. My wife had delinquent medical bills that were bought buy collectors and that's proven to be a more strenuous ordeal.

I have seen ways to use HIPPA to get a medical debt off the report. The doctor is releasing you medical information.

HIPAA One P, two As

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act

The most misspelled law, and among the most misunderstood.

For one thing, HIPAA lacks a private right of action, which means the patient has no basis for a lawsuit against a healthcare provider who violates it. Only the Department of Health and Human Services and state attorneys general have the power to enforce HIPAA violations. File a complaint with them, then sit and wait. And wait.

But healthcare providers also misunderstand it, so sometimes bluffing and bullshitting about HIPAA is enough for them to cave and get rid of a pest.

I've used Credit Karma to dispute derogatory marks and they handle everything.

All I had to do was dispute the item and they investigated and removed it after a couple weeks. Mine was a similar situation to yours where they were old items that weren't significant dollar amounts.
