Why are GBTC and MSTR way outperforming Bitcoin itself? I get GBTC because it was trading at a discount but I don’t get MSTR.

MSTR front ran bitcoin in the last bull run. It’s pretty frothy at these levels while bitcoin only being $31k

I’d assume GBTC is running more due to the discount and investors thinking that discount reverse to 0 if/when a spot etf is approved (conversion of GBTC to spot bitcoin etf has been the goal)

For anyone keeping up, Michael Saylor just bought like $200 million more in Bitcoin on Microstrategy's books.

He's also announced proposal for private offering of $500 Million of convertible senior notes... to buy more Bitcoin with.

Everytime Bitcoin goes up 1% Microstrategy seems to go up around 10%

Last week he did $800 million in convertible notes and bought bitcoin over the weekend

Just today he announced another $500 million in convertible notes to purchase bitcoin soon

There is a 20% short interest on the outstanding shares that have been in place since around $400 share price. Consensus is the shorts have a couple options: 1) buy shares to close their shorts (share price goes up) or 2) buy Bitcoin to hedge their short (BTC price goes up, thus MSTR price goes up, thus turning the screws further)

I have been buying vertical call spreads on this for a bit now. Keep adjusting and currently in the 4/12 2000/2200 spreads that would pay me 71k if over 2200 on April 12. Some guy bought the 2500 4/12 calls last week for total of about 19 mil. More than doubled up now and still holding strong. I’ll likely close when that guy closes. Love it.

Bought “a Bitcoin” worth of this a couple years ago in a Roth. Loving life right now.

So basically if BTC was 30k when I bought this I threw 30k in

Jesus.

I am actually thinking about closing out my position tomorrow. I don't understand why it is trading at such an insane premium which is why it's being shorted to death.

MSTR has a very small float around 15M shares of which 60% is owned by insiders or institutions. So the tradable float is very very small. Add in the high short interest of about 20% and sprinkle some derivatives that need to be hedged and voila. Similar mechanism as GME AMC UPST etc.

Damn, definitely not that big of a roller. I felt pretty good about my two $450 Dec 2025 calls that cost me $8000 each now up ~1,700%

Damn dude. You’re up huge. You consider rolling those things up and taking some profits? Congrats on the steel balls. I’d roll just up, not out, play with house money

It was below $200 literally a year ago.

It’s basically leveraged BTC. It’s up more than double BTC’s rally this year.
