I have seen a decent amount of press on Mighty Buildings. No clue about them, though.

No way we are at the point this is economically feasible.

Have you seen lumber and steel prices?
Custom homes $225 to $275/square in the sticks now.

I'm sure the concept is a possibility now. Robotics can build most things these days. What might work best is open.
Maybe an adobe printed house would work if it was in NM. Adobe homes in NM are at a premium these days.

I’m worried about the structural integrity of the houses themselves. 3D printed plastics are pretty well known for variability in their strength and toughness and specifically suffer under shear stresses parallel to the printing plane.
Perhaps concrete behaves better because it takes longer to cure than for plastics to solidify and you don’t have the temperature gradients, not sure.

Google pulls up Icon. They’ve installed the first permitted 3D printed home. It looks like a 20’x20’ cmu block building. I don’t see the cost advantage of swapping lumber/Sheetrock for high $ grout and all that’s printed is the wall system. Now Icon is focused on building in space, which to me makes more sense than private residential housing.

What is the definition of a 3d printed home?
Some replies on here make it sound like the walls and materials are manufactured with plastic (like the typical home 3d printer kit).
In europe, they appear to be a cement type installation.

I saw a video a few years ago where a company (heck, it may have even been a university, can't remember) in California had built a 3D printed house in Cali and that is what they used.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s a concrete type material, which would also be great for insulation and sturdiness.
