6 figs... Umm yea I'll say around 2 years for field engineers in cementing. After you break out you get your 10% raise to your salary and get your field bonuses plus various other bonuses which will put you in the upper 90K range. After that you will need another year to get another raise through your PPR and that should get you over 100K a year.
FYI... Production Enhancement is where the money is at right now, at least for Halliburton FEs

Will keep that in mind, thanks. Im am not doing cementing, was just curious of the pay. I will do mud man before I do cementing. I can get a MWD/LWD job a "fairly sure" but not sure how I feel about the schedule them boys have. Guess I will just have to weigh the options when the time comes.

GH, remember me when you are a baller

You will get great experience working with sperry drilling as an MWD/LWD. Their schedules are crazy though, you will make a shite ton of money but you won't have a life so just keep that in mind (sperry drilling was my first choice I just didn't get it) . That's what I personally love about cementing is my quality of life is pretty damn good as far as a field engineer goes and will help me get a drillig engineer position with an operator in the future which is my end goal. Its all just what you want to do in the future and what path you want this experience to help you with. Good luck with everything

Yea I would like sperry, most MWD/LWDs I know say 75-80 first year then 110-125 2nd year and up from there. I have a connection at Scientific but wanted the schooling from one of the bigs. Calling SLB tomorrow.
My goal as well, you are a PETE major?

Hey you can still tag along, especially if I go mud man, I am sure I can throw them on your scent.

So in two years you could get 40k raise base pay? If so I need an application.
Posted on 4/1/14 at 10:01 pm to guesswho
And work 300+ days a year.
Posted on 4/1/14 at 10:04 pm to guesswho
Yea I graduated PETE from LSU.
And it's not on your base pay but when you break out you qualify for all the field engineering bonuses, which there is a frick ton of in Halliburton. Great money as a field engineer.

Yea I made the jump to late to eng to do PETE, Industrial instead.
Thanks for all the info, much appreciated.

I gotcha, one the guys in my office is an IE, yea just get that Oil & Gas experience, learn the lingo, the service companies will train you well and operators will be drooling over you 2-5 yrs down the road.

Well it's kinda a trade off. We have a lot of engineers in our department so we don't work that much. That equals not as much money. You get in to where there aren't many engineers you'll be gone all the time, make tons of money but won't have a home life. I prefer to make less money and have ample time at home.

Same situation I'm in and I don't mind it at all.

Have you found this to be the case?

The figures people are stating are not base pay. This inculdes car allowance, offshore bonuses, etc. I don't know exactly what the starting salary is right now, but a little over 4 years ago, it was $56,400 with a bonus structure for signing on and midpoint presentations that gets you an additional $10k ($66,400 total). Once you "break out", you get a 10% raise and a $600 per month car allowance ($69,240). But after you break out, you get somewhere around $125 per day for being offshore, plus they've installed a bonus system for any reports and whatnot that you may be a part of. That's where your money adds up.
I don't do that anymore, so things may have changed since I was there. I would imagine everything has went up about 10% to stay competitive. I don't mind giving figures, because in the GoM, everyone starts out at pretty much the same level for a FE. Some PSL's just give more oppurtunity for offshore time and that gets you more bonuses. The job did however open up doors for me and I now make over 75% more base salary, plus much larger bonuses.
As far as people complaining about Halliburton as a company, I've heard just as many bad things about every other service company. There's no green grass on the other side as far as I'm concerned. The promissed land will always be with the operators.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
BTW...the base pay now for starting out as a FE is 62K.

Not really

Halliburton isn't so bad. SLB is the scum of the earth.

And yes I've found it the case for myself with any entry level engineering position with an operator. Hell I only have a years experience and I've already had doors open but I'm just buying my time (another year or two) for the right door to open up for myself.
Posted on 4/2/14 at 8:47 am to redstick13
That's what I found out also. I don't think they are drooling over cement and mwd hands.
