Got a little greedy shorting RIG, almost lost tens of thousands of fake dollars
Still down a little, but I'm going to see what happens tomorrow- I have a hunch that it's got a little further to fall.

Be careful when you place the order. I took a 50k haircut today when I placed a buy order when I wanted to short. Ouch!

You should see my investopedia account. I only have 2 out of 8 stocks that haven't been losing. My worst are DBO and EVEP. Both have lost 4-5 dollar per share in the past couple of weeks.
Let's just say I'm down about 9k..
My 2 profitable stocks?
Coca Cola and WWE.... Hahahaha

No sympathy expected, just a cautionary tale.
What really irks me is that the stock behaved exactly like I expected and I screwed it up by clicking too fast. I had a hunch that if NDRM dropped below what i saw as a resistance point, it would drop like a rock. It did and I boned the order.
C'est la vie!

I was feeling pretty good about myself when I checked and was 2nd place for.a minute...then things became like my real life accounts and all crumbled.

Looks like I made a smart move forgetting the game had started.. Should've remembered tomorrow (hopefully) instead.

What a difference a (big minus) day makes. I was away from my computer all day. I had 7 buys yesterday and all were up from my buy point. Thank goodness I put in stop losses on 4 of the 7 and limited my losses today.

Just put in my second order, BAC.
And NBR, goodness my man, you may run away with this thing. If I give you some money can you manage it for me?

1 trade today, FGEN, infor minutes and made 13%. Bet the whole account on it. Time to call it a day.
ETA: Screw it... I want 1st. Time for another trade.

I'm on the other side of that trade. I'm taking a beating right now. I think (hope) it will come down. :bang head:

Yeah, I posted then went back in a few minutes later to make another trade and it was a lot closer than I remember.

jlu03 made a nice trade to make a big jump up.
I took a flyer that it would go the other way. It looks like it is building a base around 39. Hopefully some sellers come along and drive it down. There's not much volume in that stock so it can go either way real quick.
As I type this it has dropped from 39 to 37
Oops, back to 38

Decided to get back in FGEN. It jumped about 7% seconds after I bought so I'm out again.
Why can't my real account do this.
Why can't my real account do this.

Why can't my real account do this.
FGEN is too thinly traded to even short anymore than perhaps a couple hundred shares at a time, if that.
The trades you made in the game would be almost 25% of the total trading volume IRL at this point in the trading day. That would move the price of FGEN so much it would probably cause the exchanges to halt trading in it. So how's it feel to be under SEC investigation??

I shorted 40,000 shares of it in the game but when I tried to short 1,000 shares in my Schwab account, the order was killed by Schwab within 2 seconds with a message that there were no shares available to be borrowed.
I also noticed the pricing of FGEN by Schwab and by the game differed by as much as $2.00/share for as long as 10 minutes at one point.
It sort of takes some of the fun out of the game that it isn't more like the real world.

I wasn't on the short side of this stock when I made the initial 20% today. I am now though.
Posted on 1/6/15 at 10:26 am to jlu03
quote:I know that. I looked at your transactions before I replied to you above. What I'm saying is you would not have been able to buy those 65,000+ shares in FGEN in real life without disrupting the market for it. We can only do it in this game where the market doesn't know or care we're doing it.
I wasn't on the short side of this stock when I made the initial 20% today.
I would not have been able to short it like I did either.
So the volume we both traded in FGEN, as well as NBR's trades in it this morning, would not be available if we were doing it for real with real money.
That was my point to your question about why couldn't you do something like what you did in the game in real life.

But lets be honest, 99.99% of us here are not playing with $1,000,000 in our real accounts. Noticed I left 0.01% out.
