The company that held their rights was made public by choice by PM and JL to help save on taxes. It went public and got bought out. Unless I am missing something.
what you seem to be missing is Dick James got 37.5% of Northern Songs because he FRONTED money to The Beatles in 1963 to get them to agree to assigning their songs rights to a company founded by him and Epstein. Capitol Records and later EMI then dealt directly with James and Epstein over rights to use Beatles songs and albums.
Then the Beatles got paid again when Dick James took Northern Songs public.
Then they got paid again when they put Apple Records in between themselves and EMI
From what I understand the Beatles still control their original shares of what was Northern Songs and the shares that were sold to Michael Jackson was the original 37.5% of Northern Songs owned by Dick James and Silver.
that bit about paying 90% in taxes sounds like a load of bullshite for 1963

one of the biggest knocks against mccartney is his naked greed. he has been paid and will continue to be paid for his music many times over. So there is really no sense in having any sympathy for him. MJ made a shrewd business move in 1985, give him credit for taking advantage of a good investment.
I don't think it was a "dick move" on his part because the Beatles (and especially McCartney and Lennon/Ono) had already been paid multiple times for the same thing that MJ paid for.

Agreed. The thing that really pust the icing on the cake for me is PM had the money and a chance to buy it when MJ did yet he refused.
