how do you figure? Excluding his one relief outing this year, as a starter he has a 2-3 record, a 4.88 ERA (worst on the staff among starting pitchers), a .297 OPP BA (worst among starters), and has allowed a .395 OBP (worst among starters). So you tell me again how it's not true.

Who is waiting in the wings that looks to be a better option.

Even with Hilliard's struggles, he still has put up better numbers than Hess this year

Hilliard gave up 7 hits,6 earned runs in 2 innings in his only SEC start. Suggesting Hilliard is a better option than Hess based on what we've seen this year is retarded.

And when Cole comes back, it's basically a no-brainer this is better for both LSU and Hess.

That means you think Marseaux AND Walker are better options than Hess as starters.

Walker seems to be settling in. But, unless you are sold on Marseaux, this makes no sense. He has an ERA of 6.67.

This team is short on starters. Either guys that haven't done it yet step up, or this is going to hurt the team.

Go compare their season numbers. Like I said, even with his struggles, Hilliard has put up better numbers than Hess this year. Did last year too.

Right now, correct

I’m aware. Hess wasn’t stepping up either and has been given ample opportunity to do so.

Hilliard's ERA in SEC play is over 11 I think.

In his last 3 SEC outings, he's given up 12 runs in 9 innings.

Hess has a 4.31 ERA in SEC play. And, in his 6 starts, he has 3 outings where he's given up 2 or fewer runs (I'm not counting the Missouri game where he was hurt and gave up 2 runs in the 1st inning).

I'm not sure how you could be more wrong than you are.

If Hilliard has pitched like last year, that would be a different story. We're in May. He hasn't been able to bounce back yet.

Relative to what you expect out of a Friday night starter. But, relative to the guy who is going to take his spot?

A bunch on here went nuts when I said Hess was a bullpen(closer) guy and not a starter. I understand why (injuries) PM had him starting but his style and approach to pitching makes him a great closer. Glad to see him get to pitch where he feels comfortable and confident.

I’ve seen no one argue that Hess wouldn’t make a better closer than a starter.

Damn near every single power arm in the rotation in the mlb would make a better closer.

Can you imagine how dominant Chris Sale would be if he only had to pitch one inning every couple of games? Know why he doesn’t? Because a starting pitcher is more valuable than a closer.

The argument was that we needed Hess to start and that if he could make it work then it would make the team better and it would have but it didn’t work out. So now we have confidence in other arms and we’re putting him back at his natural position.

All of what you just said.
I wonder if this may have happened earlier if marceaux was healthy

Idk. Maybe if Marceaux or Henry were healthy Then maybe you see CPM make a move earlier but my personal opinion was that after the first couple weeks Paul had a deadline in his head for moving Hess. Which is why you’re seeing it now even with Henry down.

Paul is completely willing to lose games due to developing players but he’s not going to risk the season when he thinks a move will help the team
