Good for him. He wasn’t going to easily get out of the funk he created for himself here.

He hit .277 with 7 HRs and 27 RBI. He did pretty decent and was hot during the regional (I think he batted over .400 for that).

Obviously he wanted to play more than win. Houston was 19-34 last year and hasn't made a regional in what 4 years. Odd landing spot for a Cali kid. I expected him to go back West. He is talented, hope he does well.

Houston is for sure a weird landing spot. Kid has all the tools. Seemed it was more a mental deal for him. I assumed if he left it would be to go back west.

He's entering his draft eligibility window, of course he wants to be on the field. That's only reasonable.

He just found a way into Mainieri's Doghouse and took forever to get out.

I agree in general, but the Big West barely had a season this year and some of the teams were only allowed to play conference games. The COVID restrictions differ by county in California. So the likely suitors out there (like a Long Beach or Irvine) probably don't offer enough of a guarantee to step on the field overall (let alone in front of current players).

Very good point, I didn’t think about that.

Arnold is a good hitter with a lot of upside. Maineri totally mishandled his playing time, costing LSU some games in the process. Can understand why Arnold decided to go elsewhere, but wish he would have stayed to play for Johnson.

The path into an infield starting position at LSU next season would have had a whole lot of resistance for Arnold.

Jeez some of y’all must think Houston is the equivalent to ULM. It was only 7 years ago that a Houston team came to our place for a regional, clawed back from elimination, and beat our asses. They can easily become a pretty good team. Especially with Rice sucking so badly

He will do well there
Maybe not quite so much pressure
Arnold getting hot the way he did was a big reason LSU won that Oregon regional

All that is valid but Houston is run by a shrill megalomanic who will shut down the city quicker than any in California.

It's an odd destination for him.

And? I don’t know anything about Houston’s local politicians nor do I give a shite about them.

But I do know that Houston played a full schedule and many California teams didn’t. And for a guy entering his draft window, getting on the field in front of scouts is more important than geography.

if you want to improve draft stock playing is the only way. It can also hurt you if you play worse in more games and opportunities.
