You’re not gonna hit what you can’t see.

It seemed a lot of the batters have a hard time watching the pitch all the way in, keeping their head down and getting solid contact.
They all seem to want to rip the cover off the ball and end up looking at the dugout when they finish their swings.
You can’t hit what you can’t see.
Isn’t that basic fundamentals?

That’s been LSU’s plate approach for at least the past 5 years.

Remember the Tennessee game 2 years ago that lasted about 45 minutes because we swung at every pitch and missed? I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve never seen a baseball coach this inept on offense.

I think Mathis’s bat may have a hole in it

When you change players, change assists, and the same problems are still there the constant is the problem.....

CPM doesn’t have an approach to hitting or offensive baseball. He doesn’t conform to traditional or modern philosophies, everything is gut motivated and changes, it seems, depending on what he’s thinking before bed the night prior to games. He doesn’t understand how to construct lineups, how to protect and maximize hitters, how to run bases, how to manufacture runs or how to steal. When you listen to him talk about offense it sounds like he believes it’s luck and it agitates him to get into specifics about it.

I guess that's why LSU never makes the play offs then.

Mathis is hitting like he wants to win it all. He needs to take what they give. He had a chance to win Saturday but he forced it

A straw man isn’t a real argument you know? Can you link the part of my post that said “we don’t even make the playoffs anymore” ?
Didn’t think so

Maybe it's as simple as the opposing pitcher pitched his arse off today. The get was hitting his spots. It was damn impressive what both of these young men did today.

Stop, this is fricking stupid. CPM knows exactly what he's doing. New approach to the game. WTF does this mean for a game that's been around over a 100 years. The pitcher locked the tigers down today. Give both pitchers there due and move on.

I’m not just referring to today’s game and you’re not addressing anything I said by simply calling me names. You’re conflating assumptions and bias into an attack, that’s all you’re doing. What you guys fail to realize is that if he were maximizing talent and displaying winning practices we wouldn’t be calling for his head. Will Wade is going through a rough patch but you’ll never see me say anything other than he’s got us on the right track even though I’ll critique his mistakes.

Not taking anything away from the pitchers at all.
But I could be lobbing up beach balls and they’d still swing and miss if they don’t keep their heads down and in.
You’re not going to hit what you’re not looking at.

I'm not attacking you bro. I think your stance is stupid and wrong. It's nothing personal.
Posted on 3/1/20 at 4:56 pm to adam32
Your argument isn’t exactly right either. We were handcuffed by a Slow pitcher from EKU that threw 74 mph. That is where your argument goes off tracks

The problem can be traced to the uprise in analytics. That states that a HR/low batting average is better then a .300/line drive hitter. It's why I HATE analytics. Every player is out there trying to swing for the fences because that is what the "data" says is best. Also, in baseball the best hitters fail 70% of the time. Now, I have not been able to watch a game yet this year, but this is a problem through out baseball at all levels. Analytics say that Joey Gallo is more valuable than Jeff McNeil.
Why do teams put on the shift to LH batters, cause they all keep trying to pull the ball and refuse to learn to hit to the opposite field. SO instead of working on hitting to left field, they complain about the opposing team playing smart defense and try to get the shift banned.
That is just MY take rom 30 years of watching baseball. You want exciting baseball, bring back the 80s style with stolen bases, hit and runs, and high .275-.325 hitters.

Right now, most LSU fans would be happy just putting the ball in play

With players in college and pros all swinging for the fences is why Ks are up across the board in all leagues: if these teams would ditch analytics and the hitters learn to hit the ball, the game would improve. But for some reason Analytics is becoming king in all sports. It take the fundamentals out of the game.
