re: You could plug almost any QB into lineup

Posted by long4life the passing scheme was fine people. The blocking sucked and the receivers dropped too many passes. OB should have caught that long pass. It was a beautiful throw and well timed play call. The scheme didn't fumble the ball twice. And the scheme didn't drop any passes.
This I agree with.
Mett has looked pretty good. Although he certainly wouldve benefited from more playing time last season. I recall a blowout or two.

I copuldn't agree more. Winning the game is sooo over rated. Let's just see the ball in the air. Like we did in junior high p.e. classes. That's what the game is all about.
Winning.......meh who cares as long as we throw the ball.

If Mett is a stud, and he's hovered at around 70% completion and we're STILL in the 90's, then talent isn't the issue. It's scheme, Lynn Brollins.
You're right, it's scheme. There's no way a run first to set up the pass offense is going to be ranked high in total passing yards. Is that what you want? I thought the goal was winning. The entire country is beginning to imitate Les and Nick, and you're saying they're doing it wrong. Florida, Michigan, Auburn, all jettisoning those fruitcake offenses for power running games.

i like this word... i'm going to try to use it in my next post

our o-line and recievers don't do a QB any favors. Nor does the play calling. You have to throw sometimes when the defense is expecting the run just to try to get some easy successes for the passing game.

Ditto. Scheme is everything at LSU with Les in charge. If you think we're going to average 300 yards per game passing, you're clueless. If you think passing will ever take presidence over running, you're even more hopeless. The formula is pound the ground and pass when you have to pass. It is what it is and I for one like that we're undefeated this year and have only lost 1 game in the last 18. Give me the honest opportunity to go to the SEC championship every year and I'll be happy.

I just hope the fans stay off Metts back. We don't need all that negativity around our QB like we have had the last few years with Jefferson. He doesn't need the extra pressure.

The stud we have has us ranked 96th in America is passing offense IIRC.
Good lord. The difference b/w 96th and 50th is only 50 freaking yards.

You miss the point.

We have a stud there now
Mett may very well turn out to be a stud. I believe that he will. But, so far, he hasn't been a stud. He has been pretty average. It is still very early and he will get better IMO.

It seems like You could plug almost any QB into lineup and get the same results. While that is admittedly a broad generalization it has credibility. Our offense is QB-shy. The coaching, scheme etc seem to have marginalized the position.

I don't think so. They throw the ball a good bit more than we do and when they do throw it, it is more likely to be down the field rather than sideways.

Valid point.

Wrong. LSU 63-95 8.91 ypa
Alabama 56-87 10.82 ypa

Good point. I agree. We could stick Drew Brees back there and it wouldnt net us any more passing plays because Les &Co. refuse to let a QB be a playmaker until he's forced to on 3rd and long. Any passes thrown before third down seem to only be toward the sideline rather than downfield. This inflates any qb's numbers because of all the easy short throws. Then you get little retards that come on TD and troll anyone with a realistic view and say "well look at this completion %"
We had over 30 called passing plays. You people are unreal.
