Replacement announcment may not be ASAP.
I expect another baseball type search that will be drawn out while we wait until the final championship game because a top coach is coming on board. In the final, the new coach will not be a top 5 coach but the "guy we really wanted".

Honest question - besides satisfying fans urge to do something now, what is the benefit? Please tell - this season results are meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
Fire him next week, and let other coaches use the job as leverage for their renegotiations?
Or maybe, do the negotiating behind the scenes and have a deal with the coach you want very soon after the season is over (ideally a few days after O is let go).
I want him gone as much as anyone, but best to do all the work behind the scenes and not let us be used as a leverage tool.
No matter the timing, this recruiting class is going to be tough to salvage. Early signing periods and coaching changes usually lead to underwhelming classes (based on what we are used to) - but it's the price to pay for moving forward.
This. There is no advantage to firing him mid-season except to give the fans their pound of flesh. Woodward can do anything behind the scenes with Ed still here that he could with him gone. It’s not like he can hire the coach of another team before their season ends. And letting him finish the season shows a little respect that may help land the guy he wants who may be turned off by the fact we’d have fired our last 2 NC winning coaches mid-season.

The early signing period now kind of changes that. Used to you could fire a guy in November after the last game, hire a new coach and he would still have 2+ months to shore up recruiting before the kids signed
Now, the vast majority of classes will be done or mostly done on December 15. Might be an advantage to get rid of Ed early to let the kids know what's on the horizon, and then hopefully announce the new hire as soon as the season ends so he has some chance to impact the new class coming in.

If Kentucky beats LSU Saturday he needs to be fired immediately

Nay, it’s too early in the season. Don’t want another interim position coach getting lucky one game and have all of y’all pining for him to get the job.

Anyone. There is not a coach on staff that has less coaching ability than our current head coach.

I believe that working behind the scenes on a new coach or doing a coaching search now and waiting to announce at the end of the season.
But this stuff can never stay quiet. Somebody always leaks or they see LSU plane flying somewhere or somebody sees a coach at BR Metro, etc. You can't keep a coaching search quiet. So that is one reason I don't think they will hang on till the end of the season to let Ed go.
If they let him go mid season, they don't have to try and hide their search. The coach they are interviewing might want to hide it but LSU doesn't.

The only chance we have to keep the recruiting class together is to have the players be inspired and have fun playing for the rest of the season (even if they are not winning). There is essentially no chance of that if Orgeron is still the head coach.
Name the interim and make it very public that the interim coach will not be a candidate for the head job.
Recruiting is not the same as it used to be. NIL is a big player, and as long as LSU is playing that game well, we will land a solid class.
Having a lame duck coach and an uninspired team will not help recruiting in any way.
Fire him ASAP to remove all mystery.

If we lose by 10-20 points I would not be surprised. I fully expect him to finish the year tho. And it will be miserable

Not necessarily, especially not with what happened with Jimbo following the 2015 season. Agents know that and they know how Louisiana politics can work. Once O is canned, all doubt is removed and talks can proceed unimpeded.

I just get the feeling with BB and baseball close to starting, this has to be resolved to avoid an ongoing distraction

Nay, he’ll finish the season, have to try to keep the recruiting class together
So how does him finishing the season keep the class together? Just cause I asked here’s how you do it with the firing
Get a yes from your guy. Have the staff working and letting these guys know that big coach is on the way.
Those that are coming because it’s LSU are in no matter what. Those that are wavering because of how things look now you have a different vision.
Lastly, make sure the world knows that the last three HC hires have won the Natty in three year. So if you’re in this class you should win the Natty

He will have the rest of the year. The decision to remove him might be made at any time, but he is just as capable as anyone else to be his own interim head coach.

That’s laughable on several levels. The fact is that whenever you make a coaching change, that recruiting class is gonna suffer. There’s just no way around it.

I beg to differ. One of the reasons we are in the situation we are in is that he is less qualified than almost any coach to run a program.

I say Nay.
I think Woodward is perfectly fine watching Ed panic and dig himself a deeper hole throughout the year. He will begin to get aggressive and defensive as the losses pile up.

Dude, Neuheisel is a ridiculous sunshine pumper. I like to listen to local guys when I'm on the road. Neuheisel never criticizes any coach. He's definitely not a national feel at all just because he's in SiriusXM

What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing so vs letting him finish out the year
