Because the reason they canned him no longer exists. You cannot blame him for doing what every other successful program and coach was doing. he just got caught. It sucks but it is forgivable.

From what i understand his base salary at NCST is still less than Mcmahon but his incentives increase it a lot. And yes the rumor is NCST has not been holding up their end of the bargain. Plus it is well known he and his wife loved it here. Him returning is not as unbelievable as you think. And the future of the Big12 could also be a factor. After all he is an analytics freak.

How can anyone respect a coach who returns to a place that previously canned him?
The LSU basketball fanbase respected Wade enough that they incessantly booed his superiors in public at games who were in favor of not allowing him to coach in the post season and another AD who did eventually fire him all while cheering on Wade and supporting the team. The lack of "respect" comes from a small portion of people who are still butthurt over a current non-issue that ultimately amounted to nothing.

I think that the love and support shown by fans who did appreciate his coaching efforts versus the vitriol shown to his unsupportive bosses engrained itself within Wade. He knows that despite the difficulties that he faced from an administration and a facilities standpoint, that the fans had his back.

I truly think that he returns if offered the opportunity, assuming that LSU can give him what he deems necessary to compete in the NIL era. LSU is poised much better to be able to meet that requirement in the future than NC St is. Especially once he starts leveraging his old booster base and selling out the PMAC.

Bring the General back home!

A lot of ACC programs are low salary heavy incentive based. UNC does this a lot

Sure wish Scotty would have figured this out before handcuffing us for SEVEN years.

Fat Scotty was clueless and thought running a major college program was no different than running a 1A high school.

That's because I don't think the market for Hubert Davis is particularly robust.

UNC (and Duke) both promoted on-staff assistants to their HC positions. It was the first HC job for each. That's why the contracts were incentive based. It was more of a "prove it" situation.

On the flip side, Maryland hired Buzz Williams away from another power conf. program last year. His average base salary is ~$5M. But that was the cost of hiring an established major conf. coach away from a major conf. program.

McMahon's contract, in terms of pay, wasn't really out of line with a mid-major hire. If LSU hires another mid-major coach I suspect the contract will be in line with the mid-major hire market.

Well Roy Williams made below 2mil per up until his final deal at UNC in 2018 I believe it was.
