We won last year despite miles not because of him.
You could have stopped at "we won last year." ...
and the year before that...
and the year before that...
There's certainly a pattern here. The argument that Miles is a bad coach is silly and pointless. It is a historical fact that Miles is a good coach ... he's had one losing season his entire head coaching career (his first year at Oklahoma state). Is he the greatest coach in college football? No, definitely not ... but to imply that Miles is a bad coach is just silly.

i don't see why he should get a third year after back to back 7-5 with this talent. It might depend on the coaching market
eta esp if he was to keep his buddies around.
also if he loses the team again like he did this year

We would literally have to go 3-9 or worse for miles to lose his job next year
I disagree...if MIles does not get rid of those moronic CO-DCs, and we have the same season or worse next year, he gets TOSSED! BOOK IT!

Yeh, so was Troy and dont forget Arkansas
If he does nothing and we have a repeat of this year and look as bad on defense he should be run before he runs the program into the ground

If Miles goes 3-5 again in the SEC next year in spite of the out of conference rent a wins and a new D Coordinator, his britches will be warm as it would point to issues far more difficult to correct than a poor defense.

If LSU settles for another season of this crap and doesn't make a change LSU needs a new AD.

Probably won't improve the team much, but I don't think Miles will be fired any time soon. Miles has totally lost this team, so I don't expect any rapid improvement.

Wow, I'm glad you're not the AD. You would have fired Bear Bryant in 1970 !!$#!??!....
A national championship coach that goes...
1968: 8-3 with a loss in the Gator Bowl.
1969: 6-5 with a loss in the Liberty Bowl
1970: 6-5-1 with a tie in the Bluebonnet Bowl.
1971: DONHOGG as AD: Bye Bye Coach Bryant.
(thanks to bamascoop for pointing this out) ;)

LSU never looks back even if LSU shows up with no DC's

Please tell me you're not going to use Bear Bryant's records from the late 60's and early 70's to support your argument.
Absolutely ZERO coaches of major programs would be allowed that type of latitude in todays CFB environment. 7-5 doesn't sound too bad when you look at it as an overall win/loss total. However, when you look at each game and the mistakes and breakdowns suffered in EVERY phase of the game, not to mention 3-5 in conference, and the miraculous comeback needed to conquer the mighty men of Troy and the incredible amount of talent assembled at LSU, there are some serious issues with this team. So, to answer your question, will a new DC save Miles's job? I don't think just hiring a new DC does anything for him. If he makes the RIGHT hire and the defense shows some marked improvement next year, then that definitely works in his favor. If he botches this hire and has another subpar year in '09, I would think the seat cushion is going to get very warm.

To be saved his job would need to first be in jeopardy. He is experienceing a down year due to his mistake in staffing. I'm sure this is a first an all sports.

and how much was Bama paying the Bear??
different times, you don't get paid as mjch as Miles is to go 7-5...
