The other "players" in the west will be dealing with the same fate in 2014. Bammer will have the untested Cooper Bateman or Blake Sims. Manziel may or may not be there. Arky? Ole miss? Auburn? No more Russell at Moo St. We will still have more talent/depth than those guys, sans the gumps.

Miles-coached teams absolutely thrive when short guessed
Yes that's the general impression. Even so, I'm looking at this year's killing field SEC schedule and adding in TCU, LSU's rebuilding defense and new offense, and thinking... what if? I guess I'm saying, "who knows?" what Les will pull out of his white LSU cap this year.

Man I know we are young on D but some of you guys would make people think we have 1&2 star players on this years D. This is LSU. There is talent on this team. We don't rebuild. Time and again this has been proven. When PP7 and KS11 left we were supposed to rebuild. Then when MC17 and BT18 we were supposed to rebuild. We have arguably the top DC in the country and talented players. The Defense will be fine. Before the 2010 season during the spring game all the experts said LSU was in trouble because the defense couldn't stop anybody. And how'd that turn out, 10 win season.

Clarification
The mental edge was referenced to coaches not players

Will Cam change that?

And they just lost Patrick Peterson, Kelvin Sheppard, and the Drake. You don't just lose that kind of talent and get better.

The credit Miles deserves is that we don't play to that level or our capable level every time we take the football field, in fact we rarely play to our abilities. Coming out and beating South Carolina after you laid a complete egg against Florida and Towson doesn't put you on a pedestal.

I would compare it to beating #1 Florida in 1997 then losing to Ole Miss the next week

My thoughts exactly and I like it that way for now. We may sneek up on a few teams early in the season but if you manage to get to 6-0 you aint gonna sneek up on anybody else.

I think it helps in another way too. The Bama and aTm folks are so full of themselves they are not looking at or thinking about anybody else right now.

What is the reason for the "ugly losses"?
....I know some of the ugly losses as you call them can be aggravating and hard to watch....but lsu is not the only team to hit slumps at times during the season....other than bama the last couple years every other major program has had those same kind of losses....if you watch teams other than lsu play you would see it happens to most teams.....just look at Florida ,Oklahoma ,Texas ,USC ,Georgia ,oregon ......hell every team has those types of losses all you have to do is pay attention to college football......in fact except for bama name one team that you would trade places with based on success the last 8 years...

What a blessing in disguise. If we hadn't, we lose to Oregon and if he's out for the year, we win it all.

Alabama had all the stars in alignment for last year and nobody can control things like that. The weak schedule, last minute wins against the Tigers and Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game and of course the icing on the cake is the NC game against a terrible Notre Dame team. The tables are ready to be turned on the tide.

That's part of it.

Miles teams thrive on the challenge and having something to play for. If they don't feel challenged, they play down to their competition and sometimes can get beat for it. Especially if they feel entitled.

If he wants to be remembered as great, he's got break that habit.

Yep, Lee really had Bama on the ropes on 11/5 before JJ came in and ruined our shot at.....oh wait.

Ftr, JJ would have had very similar success against Oregon and WV in that early stretch.
