I think he did this so he can bring their starter back as a relief pitcher on Sunday or to pitch Monday if they have the need. Nothing else makes much sense about those relief pitchers.

Guys in the regional pitched back to back days. They don’t need to throw 30 pitches. You can bring a dude in to try and get 2 outs and throw 15 pitches. If it doesn’t work then take them out and put the other guys in.
And there is no potential when coming into the game you have played 58 games and 1 guy pitched 6 innings, another 6.1, another 6.2. 19 total innings between 3 pitchers in a Super Regional!!
LSU seemed lethargic today, made errors, were getting blanked through 3 without a hit. Kirn started to get wreckless then we were more than happy to get hit 5 times and walk 8. It’s one thing if your pitchers had a bad night and it falls apart (like us vs Little Rock). It is another thing when you put in guys you know suck and directly cause your team to get embarrassed

Obviously it is all hindsight. But they are known for coming from behind so I was just baffled…but not complaining! It was nice for a change we were benefiting from walk after walk

I was really surprised to see that lefty come out with like 89 pitches and then who they put in after that.
I think the heat got to Kirn, big time.
And the pitching changes were confusing coming from a team that had had 26 come from behind wins. No way they were “conceding” game 1 in the 5th inning only down 2 runs.
I think the coach might have been trying to get cute and sneak an inning out of a pitcher that didn’t have a lot of film out for LSU to use as a scouting report.

Don’t forget that our top pen arms walked 11 in one game to LR. Need another big lead tomorrow .

He knows what he has to work with. He decided he wasn’t throwing a meaningful arm after pulling the starter who I think was struggling in the heat. It will look genius if it works out.
Having said that, I’d like to see the stats on road teams winning super regionals starting 0-1. It can’t be good.

Only way you see Kim back is Monday i believe he threw 82 pitches today

Well winning Game 1 increases your chances to 79%, so I’d assume the home team winning game 1 is even higher

Probably saw heffner burn ellwanger last weekend vs Andreson for no reason.

If Sabans is playing for Monday that might be a huge mistake. Eyanson has been out-pitching Cade for a while now. He is pitching as well as anyone in the country. He is a bulldog.

This was you, right?

Losing to a 4- seed who was ranked 250th in a regional host site? Marking another year we don’t get out of a regional? With 2 of the top 10 pitchers in baseball?
Why are so fans sooooo nervous to call a spade a spade
Fyi- OP is probably saying this because college sports analysts have already put this out that it would be the biggest choke in lsu baseb

wvu coach knows he is up against it, severe heat and severe humidity and lsu starting pitching and lsu rabid fans and… … he is just trying to survive, keep his teams heads in the right place… cause he knows if they even catch a hint of despair… its only seconds until the body follows the mind down that rabbit hole… from which there is no return…

I couldn’t believe it in real time. It is the Supers, you pull out all the stops not quit in the 5th and hope you get lucky. Pretty happy though because that team is scrappy and we didn’t give them much hope. Hopefully that continues!

He wears a helmet for a reason

Yeah I agree he apparently gave up against Anderson thinking he can win the next 2. I’m not sure how he figures that considering Eyanson is an ace also. We have 2 aces. Let’s punish these bastards tomorrow and head on to Nebraska!

Fehrman basically pitched when Cock did in blowouts

Well they put a 7 spot on our Top 5 draft pick, if we close our eyes and lose offensive focus things will get tight.

I think the heat came into play.
Just my opinion. Kirn looked spent when he went to dugout

While tall order, that is your best shot. LSU will try to win it today and if WV can pull it out, Monday will be gorilla ball for everyone.
