IMO, desperate situations call for desperate measures. Would you rather bring in guys with many innings who have shown they aren't any good or go with relative unknowns that have pitched less and hope to catch lighting in a bottle with a surprise. I will remind fans of Thatcher Hurd 2 years ago who had a poor regular season and suddenly became a post season star.
It's a little late in the year to be doing that. He should've recognized who has talent and got those guys work throughout the season. Hurd is a poor comparison. He didn't go into the postseason with only 6 IP all year. We knew he had talent and let him work through it all season long until he figured it out. If all these pitchers for WVU with 20-40 IP suck then some of those guys he used yesterday should've been getting work a month ago

I don't think their coach could realistically expect to win this series 2-0 against LSU, given our 1-2 punch on the mound.
WVU has to be thinking that this series is going 3 games. When you're down pretty big in Game 1 against arguably the best pitcher in America, you have to be mindful of that.

Coach obviously didn’t think WV was going to get to our ace so was setting up for the next game
Why would you not expect the opposing teams ace in game 1?

It wasn’t a desperate situation. It was a 3-1 game. Anderson was good, but not at his best. WVU was making decent contact. If WVU hangs in at, say, 4-1, with Anderson likely to be out in a couple of innings who’s knows what happens? At minimum, LSU may have been forced to use Evans
But their HC basically conceded a 3-1 game at that point by bringing in back of the BP guys. Now he can’t hold anyone back today. Meaning that even if he gets to game 3 their pitching could be spent.
It really looks like the strategy going in was essentially to hope for the best, but concede game 1 with the plan to try to win games 2 and 3

Seems clear he was going to try to win game one as long as the starter could go. Once starter was in trouble he was saving it all for game 2 and hoping our pitching will be suspect in game 3.
Not horrible strategy though he gave up too easily yesterday and it send a bad message to his team.

I was not referring to the score as a desperate situation. The "desperate situation" I was referring to was the absolute fact that West Virginia has a poor pitching staff. That is undeniable. So once again, I have no problem with the WVA coach trying a guy who MAY have potential but hasn't had enough opportunities to show it. The guys who have eaten up most of the relief innings haven't shown much this season other than the 7-1 guy. And even his ERA is hardly impressive at well over 4.
We also don't know if some of the "less used" pitchers had injury problems during the season, etc. I think it is unfair to judge another team's managerial decisions unless you have West Virginia season tickets or something.
