8-5 with an avg qb and some horrible defensive coaching..
Yes, and guess who controls all of that??
And I'm just saying it just happened that there was this drop off when the majority of Saban players were gone, so i really don't think we can judge the all around greatness of Miles till he starts winning consistently w/ his own recruits, and this past recruitig season gives me hope, but we won't see the full impact of this recruiting class for another 2 years

but until he can consistently field a team w/ double digit wins, he can't be a top 5 head coach
So far 75% of the time Miles has won 11+games a year at LSU. Let that soak in.

and so the next thing to prove that you are a great head coach is winning big consistently like Carrol, Urban, Brown, and Stoops.
Do you even know Miles record against the top 10 or top 15 for that matter?

Sort of, BUT Saban improved Shula's players and made them better, so that classifies as being a good coach, b/c he IMPROVED them, this evident by a crappy first year w/ Bama players then an awesome second year,
Okay. Is it fair to believe that you think Saban develops players more so than Miles?

By winning big consistently doesn't mean winning national championships or BCS, its about consistently being talked about in the preseason, and being there at the end of the season consistently, and like i said i will be eager to find out what les does with his OWN recruits, and last year was not sooo hot
And like I said Les took over a GREAT PROGRAM IN A GREAT SITUATION, not many coaches get that opportunity

so Miles controlled his QB getting arrested? His QB breaking his leg? His QB getting a concussion. Bo Pelini getting offered a job?
get real. shite happens beyond your control sometimes.

Just saying that it accounts for something more win you make players better the next year, and the following seasons, it proves you can do more with less, and that is good.
Les took over a team with a great amount of talent and won with it, which is awesome, and I give him credit for doing that, but don't tell me Saban had nothing to do with the first 3 seasons of Les's success

Dude you are hopeless..........there was no drop off........the only place LSU can go is down after a national championship especially with the release of the #1 recruit in the nation in 05.

WTF?? Being TALKED about?? I want to actually win big games, not be sucked up to by ESPN like Pete Carroll is who plays basically nobody all year. And define "being there" at the end of the season.

Saban had about as much to do with our 34 victories as I did........
Secondly, do you know what Saban's record was the year after he won the national championship at LSU?
Lastly, my young friend Saban hasn't done anything consistently at any school he has coached in his career nor has he sustained your double digit victories per season like you spoke of.

Fine I give you he can't control the QB, but he did recruit RP. But HE does get control over who gets to run his defense, being at LSU, he could hire a lot of different people for that job, its not like he was put in a sticky situation where the coach left right before the season, and it was unexpected, but the Pelini hire was expected, in fact it happened in DECEMBER, and people knew he was going to leave for a head coaching job sooner or later, so he could have peicked from a different bunch of people, he was not stuck with what he got in terms of the DC position

We'll see what happens this year. I for one have total confidence that Miles will have a great year and maybe FINALLY the Saban suckers will STFU and get behind our coach... who DIDN'T jump ship at the first opportunity.

I'm not arguing that he is a bad coach, but until he can consistently field a team w/ double digit wins, he can't be a top 5 head coach, b/c he obviously can't be labeled a rebuilder, b/c he took over a pretty damn good football team, and so the next thing to prove that you are a great head coach is winning big consistently like Carrol, Urban, Brown, and Stoops.
But really I have no problem w/ Miles,
And about the winning w/ other people's recruits and players, you can gain points by DOING BETTER than previous seasons w/ those players, so in the case of Saban taking over DiNardo's players, he IMPROVED THEM, b/c they had a pretty bad year prior to Saban, so he took what he had and MADE them better, so its not like winning w/ your own, but you do score some points for IMPROVING them
I know what you're saying. Let's be honest. Saban has had an immediate positive effect on the programs he's "headed" (other than NFL/Miami - which I don't count - since he's only about 5'5").
I give him big points on development of players, finding their right positions for futures in pro football.
There's just more to the picture, in my opinion when it comes to college ball... and I'll tell you what I mean in a moment, because I know you've already posted...

All this talk is getting old. The order is not right in the dumb list. One guy's opinion at Rivals, trying to stir things up.....and it is working in tiger town as usual. Again, Paterno does NOTHING and he is #15. He stays at home every day while the team practices. Don't let this crap bother you. Miles is a Nat'l Champ coach....he is plenty good and loyal....what he lead this team through his first year was near miraculous...only an IDIOT would have criticized him that year.

Yea he was 9-3, bit I thank him for the first SEC championship LSU won in 13 seasons, he won 2 of them in his short tenure here
And once again, being a great coach means EITHER building programs, like at LSU, won two SEC championships, the first since in 1988, so whats that first in 13 Seasons, and he won 2, so I call that building a program,
OR
winning consistently, with a great team, like double digit wins
OBVIOUSLY since LES took over a great program in GREAT shape he has to be a great coach by being consistent!!!!

Please find one comment where i said I wasn't behind our coach, I am and have confidence in him,
but that being said, I don't think he has proven yet that he is a better coach then Saban or is top 5 coach YET!!!!!!
Time will tell

Nope you can sustain the program at a high level, i.e. Pete Carrol, Mack Brown, Jim Tressel, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops

Yeah Meyer did what after his NC in 06? Man that Michigan game
If Miles team wins the Bama game last year we are still in the thick of the SEC West race and shooting for Atlanta.......
You really need to focus and do your homework......Miles has sustained this program more adequately than anyone could have imagined since he has been here. He has made 1 bad decision of out 20 in hiring co-defensive coordinators and fixed it in less than a year. He has a top 5 offensive coordinator and a d coordinator that has been in the SEC almost longer than you've been born.
You are taking this 8-5 season waaaaaaaay toooooooooooo seriously.

STOP! Saban was good! Miles is good! Let it go! Saban's last team lost at least 4....the next year unde miles, with all the strife going on, LSU only lost 2 and had a great year. There are too many variables, too many close games.....it is impossible to objectively compare...both are good....if LSU loses 1 or 3 games next year, Miles is good.
