and another bitching about Baker post what a shocker the man has taken us to the 54th rank defense this year it’s not perfect. It’s a work in progress and he’s made a lot of progress.

give the crying bitching and whining a rest

. Baker came into the worst LSU defense of the last 25 years and turned it into a slightly below average unit.

Exactly. He met expectations this year. Im really looking forward to what he can do in 2025 with what looks to be, a more talented squad, with some guys with experience in his system.

Send Baker packing seems negative in my view. Aranda has been gone for 4 years. Baylor had 1 good season followed by 3 not so good years. His defenses have not been good. Why would anyone think it is ok for Aranda to be the DC? If this was asked last year, a lot of people including me would be open to the idea. Not after 1 year with Baker being the DC. LSU dropped 44 on Aranda ( I know one is a pick 6). Another TD was dropped so it could have been 50 points. I like Aranda and appreciate what he did but I don't like going back to the same person for a 2nd go round. It does not work well often.

Since Aranda has been at Baylor, his defense has only been better than LSU 1 time. That was in 2021. LSU has had a better Defense than Baylor. He should have his players he wants to have a really good defense.

I would still take Baker. Yes he is younger and can leave to become a HC. I would still take him.

He just gave up 44 pts to Joe Sloan and a makeshift OL

I would but I think Baker may have more upside at this point in his career. This is not a "bash Baker" thread. More of a "how do you guys see Aranda now" at this point of his career?

Glad to see the downvotes piling up on you for this bullshite.

I thank Aranda for his service here, but that time is long over. He’s always been a liability recruiting, he hasn’t been super successful using the portal running a program with money, his staff hires haven’t been great (still important as a DC as position coaches move on) and his defenses at Baylor were only good for a couple of seasons early in his time there. Even this year with him taking over calling the D, they were nothing special.

He would probably be fine going back to being a DC, but he’s no mastermind like many here believed. Plenty of guys are just as good and there are several out there who are better today. And Baker is a much better fit for our personnel in the front 7, which is rapidly improving through recruiting. We don’t need to flop back to a fricking undersized 3-4 again when it took us forever to move away from it.

No - they are about the same. Baker has more fire - I would keep over Dave.

Go back to 19 and watch LSU play Ole Miss, when a couple of first team defenders were injured.
Fans were wanting to fire Aranda.

Depends, would Kelly let him run his D?

I think he's insinuating that Orgeron didn't let Aranda runs his (Aranda's) defense and is asking if Kelly would allow Aranda to run Aranda's defense.

Are we talking X & Os and schemes? What about all the other aspects of the DC job can we compare? Recruiting? Development? Personal relationship with players? Network affiliations with LA high schools? Professional compatibilities with peer and head coaches?
I really don't know but maybe someone here does and can add depth to this thread, if there is any.

If Baker leaves, Aranda should be the first call if he is let go. Dude is a LB whisperer. I’d like to see what he could do with Weeks and Perkins. There is a current RB on the roster who he could turn into an All American at LB.

The Aranda lovefest is alive and well on this board and to me its a head scratcher. Highest ranking while at lsu was 33 and that was the natty team. Overated def coordinator and coach in my opinion. He also does not recruit very well. If not for the athletes we had we would have finished worst than 33. We won because of offense, defence was bailed out by Joe and company
