Before Miles we lost less than 3 games only 9 times going back to 1960. I'm sure there's more if you go back further, but y'all are gonna have to look those up yourselves. Only one of those seasons was under Saban's leadership.

Short answer, yes.
We put a lot of players in the NFL. Most years we go into november with a good ranking. We are now a national brand. Miles is a respected coach (outside of LSU fans). The older crowd remembers being excited for a bowl game. Independence bowl vs notre dame and michigan. I was happy for it. We sucked so bad back then.
2011 we lost the national championship. Won in 2003 and 2007. List the teams that have done better since 2000. I really dont know, but 2 nattys i would think bama, florida maybe ohio st.
So yes we are elite. No one cares if you lose or play in a bowl game on the national level. We only remember nattys and our own team.

LSU is more Meh than I've ever seen.
I'm 21 and haven't missed a snap since I went to my first game at Bama in 2005.
I've never seen a LSU team with less fire and less leadership that this 2015 team, and it starts from the top.

How much did LSU really invest in football before 2000? Coaching staff, facilities, everything. It's not even close.

What are we basing elite on? 1 yr, 5 yrs, 10 yrs, 15 yrs, history of the program?
1 yr = no
5 yrs = probably (2011 natty appearance)
10 yrs = yes (1 title and 2nd)
15 yrs = yes (2 titles, a 2nd and a 3rd)

I think people are having trouble distinguishing between "team" and "program".
LSU offers recruits things the overwhelming majority of schools can't. Our facilities and amenities are some of the best in the country. The players here don't want for anything

An elite whose fans are happy with the losses LSU has been having.
Top teams expect to win more than what LSU settles for. It is more important to keep a nice guy as head coach than get a better coach.
Not once did I see someone claim that LSU would do better in the FUTURE with CLM than with Jimbo
