Without the benefit of a playoff you're either being intellectually dishonest or just naive to think there could never or should never be some sort of "shared" title. I don't agree with the shared title in '03 but that is apples and oranges compared to '11.

correct. of course we want crystal. but will LSU turn down the AP? of course not. we did not in 2007 and we will not now win or lose. you know it and I know it but these others are really clueless. USC did not play in the BCS championship game that year. and last i checked they did not beat LSU or OU that year either in the regular season. LSU beat bama already whom we are playing again for the BCS NC. if some do not get the differences now they never will. oh and...the APis it's own entity now and not part of the BCS so they can give their title to who they see fit.

So if Alabama wins by 3, will it be "Beg,Tigers,Beg!" for the AP?

I don't live in a world of make believe. Santa doesn't exist, momma is the tooth fairy, and split titles have their place. Your kicking and screaming doesn't change that.

Nope. Just debating the merits if it does happen.

AP title is not national championship that NCAA recognizes. Not one that I want to recognized either. Although, I would acknowldge that we were ranked number one by the AP...just not that we were national champions.

The Crystal Football winner is the National Champ. The Associated Press voted to not longer be a part of the BCS system.

Since the BCS System is the accepted way to choose the National Champion, The BCS winner is the winner of the NCS game.

If the AP wishes to name their own champion, then so be it. There are several polls, and each of them may do so. None of them are the official champion, unless they played and win the BCS game.

I want the NC for LSU as much as anyone. But I do not want a USC kind of trophy. One with an asterisk.

Should Bama be in this game? Hell NO! But the system put them in the No.2 spot, so they get another chance at the Tigers.

I have LSU winning

The AP has been naming a national champion since 1936. There has always and will always be an AP national champion and trophy. Does anyone honestly think that If LSU is awarded the AP title and trophy, regardless of what happens on Monday, that they aren't going to claim it and display it? Les will probably also qualify for his raise to $1 more than the highest paid coach unless the BCS is mentioned specifically.

If there is a split, LSU will have won its 4th national title, and deservedly so after the season they had.

and the BCS is?????? you might wanna rethink that ole chap. There is a reason nobody in college FBS/division 1-A football wins a "NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP".

because the NCAA does not sponsor a playoff-style tournament or recognize official national champions for the Football Bowl Subdivision.

We know Bama can not be considered the best team by winning only one game, you can call it split or whatever you want.

If Bama wins, they are #1 and congratulations to them. They would therefore be "the best team".

I don't necessarily agree with it but LSU is getting the AP trophy unless Bama wins in a blowout, and that ain't happening
The AP doesn't award titles to teams that lost in the title game.
