Wish John Ferguson and Walter Hill could have been around to have seen the 15-0 Tigers.

They were a top-notch announcing team, imo. Grew up listening to them call the LSU football games.

p.s. And I miss the great Sid Crocker announcing at the BB games.

Can you imagine the amount of missed names Hawthorne would have had on scores

John Ferguson would have been able to say he was all alone in the moonlight every game with our receiving corps.

Way fewer than you would have had.

Yep, but he could not say Joe's cousin was in the moonlight like Hamilton. He could says Joe threw a "blue darter" about "quail" high like Bert did. He will always be the voice of the Tigers to me. Sid calling Dr No. XXX to report at the games.

How about Edwards Helaire is going to be hit for a loss, now he squirts forward for an eight yard gain.

Remember listening to John Ferguson on the radio as a kid on Saturday nights.

Then waking up on Sunday morning to get the Times Picayune sports page.

He will always be the voice of the Tigers to me.

He did drive you crazy sometimes as the outcome of a play was often not the way he called it.

He would make a 3-5 yard run sound like it was a 30 yard gain.

John furgerson was say “he is submarined down at the goal line”. Always could visualize the game with him doing play by play. I miss those guys too

John Ferguson is the all time King of Lsu football broadcasting much like Russ Limbaugh is to conservative talk radio. John was the best, his heart & soul was LSU athletics.

Listened to John on KWKH 1130 out of Shreveport. It was some of the most memorable times as a kid. Come Sunday I would beg for my folks to take me to town to get a Shreveport Times. Good times.

Mark Twain said “politicians, old buildings, and prostitutes become respectable with age”. I suspect he would have included sportscasters had they existed in his time.

Funny thing I was thinking the same thing a few days ago. At this senior place I stay about 10 days ago a guy told me he had a high school friend who played at LSU in the late 1950s. His hometown in Illinois was really proud of him and wondered if I ever heard of him. Before he said anything else I yelled out, “Down in the arms of Johnny Langan from Carbondale, Illinois.” Langan was a LB on the Chinese Bandits.

I heard that a lot from John Ferguson. Though there may have been more names of towns of players he called out I remember that one very well. At that point I was sad that John and Walter missed 2019.

John Ferguson was also a C-46 Pilot in WWII, "Flying the Hump" from India to China over the Himalayans. Google that, millenials and snowflakes.

Hawthorne did not confuse names/numbers until his sight began failing him in his later years as "The Voice."

And how would J. C. Politz have enjoyed 15-0? He certainly enjoyed being the voice of 11-0 and Cannon's punt returnL

Ferguson was indeed a legend. Felt like you were there..."Alexander steams into the middle... for 2 yard gain".
Good stuff
