This is from an article written before his first season at LSU.

quote:

There to greet him is administrative assistant Brittany Carvalhido, the first visitor of the morning. She and Wade begin finalizing his fall speaking schedule, which has been almost presidential in its nature since his hire in the spring. Wade hasn’t turned down many speaking opportunities, if any. Fraternities, sororities, men’s clubs, alumni events, sports administration classes, work safety programs: all, and more, have been stops on his one-man offseason tour to promote a program in dire need of promotion.

But November is around the corner, and Wade’s schedule is congested with practices, film sessions, workouts, recruiting, and other program-building tasks, leaving less time for public appearances. He’s going to have to start saying no, he knows. “You’ve still got a lot of people who want to hear you,” Carvalhido says. “Just wait’ll we lose a couple games,” Wade cracks back.

He was begging any and everyone to show up for that first season. The next year they win the SEC and received the highest (or lowest depending on how you want to classify it) seed in the NCAAT in nearly 40 years

This year the students got t shirts before the Miss. St. game. They got Geaux reward bonus points for attending the Florida game. They were given sausage biscuits before the Ole Miss game. The ones of age (and I'm sure many that aren't) are able to buy beer at the games for the first time EVER. Other than paying the students to show up to the games I'm not quite sure what the HC/AD can do to get them there.

Didn’t he start a grass roots outreach program with his own team to get fans involved right when he got the job here? Pretty sure I remember reading about it.

What specifically does Coach O do to create student excitement that Will Wade isn't doing?

O doesn’t have to.
Football is a bigger draw at LSU than basketball ever will be... same for baseball. ....Maneri doesn’t have to either. Fans are coming to baseball and football games.
Will wade would only be helping himself and the program.
Basketball is third at LSU. I don’t make the rules, it is what it is.

Student: Because you can’t get drunk at a basketball game. We’d rather watch it in a bar... where we can get drunk.

This is so fricking stupid. Just pregame before goin in, sneak booze in, get hammered and go out after to celebrate the win.

These kids are clueless.

Of course, it was a different era then and there were no expectations for LSU basketball because no one cared, so I'm sure he had more time. He went all over the place talking to people about LSU basketball and handing out LSU basketball goal nets, etc.

Not as much after he won in ‘81. He did do coaching clinics. He built it up and then won and sustained it. Didn’t hurt he went into Louisville Ky and bought a couple really good players as well as Abernathy.

It was t marketing that got me to go to the elite 8 tournament in New Orleans in ‘81. It was coming off the ‘80 season and then this team doing what it did. The excitement t level never dropped after that until after Shaq left.

Ever watch one of will wades? After every game he praises the weak arse student section when he should be calling them out. Literally after every home game he praises them.

He even gets on the PA immediately after the game sometimes to thank the fans. 1:30

Pretty weak take by OP.
