Hey Mike!
I'm a dyed-in-the-wool, purple and gold, LSU Tiger. It's as much a part of who I am as is cafe au lait, crawfish, fried chicken and Sunday School and Church. I'm a Southerner from the great state of Louisiana. I know what its like to have to overcome tremendous odds. I remember 1993 Florida 58, LSU 3 as much as I remember LSU 17, Alabama 13 from that same year.
I was at every game in 1983 when my LSU Tigers beat the eventual PAC-10 Washington Huskies by a score of 40-14 and it was the largest crowd in Tiger Stadium history until the East Upper deck. That same year LSU had its first winless season in the SEC, finishing 4-1 in non-conference but 0-6 in conference.
I was there for Gerry Dinardo's final game in 1999 when our Tigers lost to Houston. We lost to a bad Houston team. Joe Dean ran in front of the student section, drunk, thinking people were applauding him when many of us wanted to put a foot up his arse more than Dinardo's and were booing him.
I've been in Tiger Stadium with a heavy rain and stayed until the very end, even though my Tigers were losing. I stayed there so they knew that I was there to cheer them on no matter what.
Now we are enjoying some champagne and caviar years as LSU alums and fans yet we have some fans complaining about the Dom Perignon and the Beluga Caviar. To all of you - I wonder if you truly are an LSU Tiger or if you are one of those people that I see here in Los Angeles that where USC shirts now, but were wearing Nebraska or Florida or Florida State shirts in the 1990's.
If you are one of them, please leave. There are plenty of us that wear our LSU shirts and caps with great pride whether our Tigers win a game or not because we are just proud to be LSU Tigers, from the great state of Louisiana.

One more thing - GEAUX TO HELL AUBURN!!!

i'm a tiger til i die. i've seen good and bad in tiger staduim. it doesn't take a graduate of this university to be a die hard. i got my bachelors from la tech. but i was a tiger from the very moment i could understand what i was cheering about. any of you that think that you have more vested in lsu and many others including myself are sorely mistaken. i love lsu and will until i take my last breath on this earth.

I love our fans that are passionate about LSU and didn't go there.
I do have a question regarding this
Do you cheer for my Alma Mater or your school when we play them?

great post. we need to rally the team. nothing wrong about talking about what we need to do to get better as a team but all these immature kids on here bashing everyone and everything is rediculous.

i went to tech due to the fact that i was born and reared 25 minutes from the tech campus. i was a good offensive tackle in high school. my sr year i blew my knee out but never recovered from it. so instead of going to lsu i chose tech because of there engineering program. the rest is history. but to answer your ? i've always been a tiger and will die a tiger

i read the first post, and seen many other posts on this exact topic so i'll just say this
being critical does not make a bad fan..sometimes, it just means you are being objective.
being overcritical happens sometimes with rabid fanbases (philly, pitt ex), and although i don't agree with this, most times over criticism comes from high standards which comes from previous success.
you could always have the alternative. happy fanbases with little to no complaints and mediorce (at best) football teams. if you prefer those fan bases, Tulane could definitely use your support. Then, just jump from mediocre team with happy non criticzing fan base to another each year

ALSO- if you just want to hear praise...you should really avoid public forums (radio stations, websites etc) where difference of opinions and discussion of those opinions are encouraged

Did you really choose Tech's Engineering Program over LSU's? Interesting ...

Geaux Tigers! Even in the Josh Booty days, I still looked on the positive side and I actually and truly expected to win every game because I knew that it could be done, and I expected it to.

There is a mindset out there that is very prevalent in La....that we call negatigers...because there are actually folks that feel more comfortable in that state of mind because it's their most familiar surroundings...it's what they are used to...I have known people that would actually ignore a positive situation right in front of their face and perfer to ponder the negative past...I only wish they would go somewhere else and leave this board to those who want to smell the roses that are blooming in tiger stadium today...It is the greatest time to be a LSU Tiger of all times!!!!!

if you expected to beat every opponant we played in 1999 then you are delusional..and i'd ratehr be a little over critical than delusional
which is so funny, b/c i always hear so many LSU fans criticize Bama fans for the same belief

What the hell do we even have a frickin' Tiger Rant for if we are only allowed to post pep rally, ra-ra stuff. Can we at least discuss pro's and con's without being labeled a "negatiger" or not a "true" Tiger fan?

no doubt
and someone less than an all-SEC QB could have been used to describe the (insert QB) days

more importantly...if peopledon't like reading or hearing it, why do they come to an open forum where those types of opinions are encoraged to be discussed?

Being a student at the university you love is a completely different feel and environment that cannot be matched through any other level of fandom. I just don't think that non-students can gain that level of appreciation that students are able to attain if they so wish.
This is a hard thing to fathom, but it's true. Football is football, but LSU is much bigger and has a much deaper meaning. I spent 8 years of my life on that campus and every gameday brings out old emotions, and old friends. It's more than football, it's like cracking open the past and seeing yourself in these bright faced kids. I'm sure it's like that for anyone who gets to go back to their college, LSU is not alone in this.
I'm no bigger fan than I was in 1992 when we were horrible, I still love every player out there because they fight for what I believe in. I don't think it takes an alumni to feel this one bit. I think alumni probably get more out of tailgating and walking around campus, but why wouldn't they? On Saturday I remembered the exact feeling I had walking into my quantum mechanics final. Exactly, from 12 years ago. Sat on that bench, super nervous, thinking I'd naver make it through. I NEED LSU for this. I grew up there, and I think it makes me stronger to be back there. It fills the fight tank up so to speak. Show up to work on Monday with a little extra, I did it then, I can do it now.

I graduated from Tech, so I'm less of a fan?

Win every game? We went when we lost every game. I don't give a frick what kind of fan anyone is. Do what you want. For North Texas I didn't even wear LSU colors. I will for Bama and Georgia, but I don't play the pagentry card. If you support LSU, you support LSU. If it's just for football, then so be it. Happy to have the fans.
