I just don't see which mid-major to low major coach would want to come to a program where you get 3 years to turn your program around and if not you're gone.

Most coaches are arrogant they don't go into the job thinking about what happens when i'm on the hotseat. They think they're the smartest guy in the room and they can win anywhere. There are only so many major conference coaching jobs not many would turn that opportunity down. LSU isn't a powerhouse but it's not like it's Northwestern where you can't win and the SEC West is ripe for the picking right now.

And before anyone responds, don't kid yourself, TJ had to turn this program around

What?

He's 5-27 SEC the last 2 years. He didn't turn anything around. He & Alleva killed LSU Basketball.

might have something to do with LSU being a football school? just maybe

well sure.

but we still miss out on top notch in state talent.

we had a final four team when he took over.

and basketball is still pretty important.

i'm noone, and my opinion matters not, but i thought we'd be better by now. we suck. we suck bad. jmho

He turned out ok didn't he?

THANK YOU!!! Gosh, you idiots just don't understand. It takes time... he did the damn thing his first year when he had TALENT. Now he has Derenbecker as his prized recruit over the last 2 years, which is just laughable... let the guy get some more of his guys and some better recruits and then start bashing him. You people just don't understand it takes time. No coach who is trying to build a program right could of come in and been successful after there first year because the talent drop off was so immense.

Here's Billy Donovan's first 3 years at a "Football School": (SEC games in bold)

1996–1997 Florida 13–17 5–11
1997–1998 Florida 14–15 6–10 NIT 1st Round
1998–1999 Florida 22–9 10–6 NCAA Sweet Sixteen

________________________________________

Here's Trentball:

2008–2009 LSU 27–8 13–3 NCAA Second Round
2009–2010 LSU 11–20 2–14
2010–2011 LSU 10–15 3–13

Billy Donovan is nearly 10 years younger than Trent Johnson & has 2 National Championships.

If I'm wrong I will gladly admit it, but I believe from 1980 til Arkansas entered the conference LSU was traditionally the 2nd best basketball school in the SEC(after UK). After Arkansas entered we bounced back and forth with Arky, Bama, and sometimes state for tops in the west. The recruiting has gone to shite (even under Brady) unless we had a top notch baller right in out back yard.

Trent Johnson makes 1.5 Million per season before incentives.

Is there A deduction if LSU comes in last place?

Would that not be an incentive?

I do. It would show any other coach at LSU and future hires, LSU does not put up with losing.

Give coaches a one year performance contract after a losing season.

I say....let him go.....

Trent took over and won the SEC with Brady's players.

So, I'm saying it was the players and not the coaching that won, because where has the coaching been the last two years?

Everybody keeps saying that TJ is "turning it around". We didn't need a coach to come in and re-invent the wheel. It's not like Brady had the program in absolute shambles. We just need an X's and O's coach that could recruit as well as if not better than Brady and keep them here. And, to not polarize the fanbase anymore.

Let's look at what TJ has done since he got here:

- his first season was a success. But then again, who wouldn't have had a success with Mitchell, Thornton, and Temple? That was the last ditch spillover from the Final Four team.
- since then, he has had two disaster seasons in a row record wise, with boring basketball, sometimes flat out terrible basketball, poor shot selection, terrible defense, slow developing offense, and the fanbase is as divided as ever now with long time season ticket holders dumping and finally letting go of those two seats they've had for 20+ years.

LSU fired Brady 1 3/4 seasons after a Final 4. That's looking like a very Bad decision now.

no, that was a great decision...the subsequent hire may not have been the right decision. although it is unfortunate for TJ that he missed the timeframe that Collis stocked the program with his kids and god-kids.

That is true....I'm a fair weather LSU basketball fan so I haven't paid very much attention to this years crappy team...I could be dreaming, but didn't I read where Trent said at the beginning of this season that LSU finally had some real good outside shooters on the team?

Yesterdays box score is not indicative of a team that shoots good, but that's just 1 game...How has the outside shooting been for the season?

why are people so much more prone to give the bastketball coach time? if it were a football coach, two years of 3-9 seasons and there would be a lynching. just curious.

We all knew that John Brady needed to go. Nobody here is challenging that.
