Consistently not good enough though. However, I'm one of the few that feels like our talent is severely overrated.
Draft numbers don't lie, brah.

Wow what a game.
basically what the Oregon coach said last night after escaping, at home, against a team that lost to Eastern Washington and got trounced the week before at home...

It's a legit criticism. Miles seems content with bad performances that result in a win
People confuse him presenting himself with class and grace as him being content with bad performances. I guess fans here would like it better if he was belligerent like that psychopath Bo Pelini.
People need to understand that the guy is always recruiting. Would you send your son to go play for someone that looks perpetually joyless and angry? There's one coach on the planet that can pull that off. Parents look at Les on TV, acting like an actual human being instead of a coach, and that's part of why they like him.

I agree with that completely.
As much as everyone loves hearing this, Saban has laid out the perfect blueprint. The process of how you do things is more important than the end result. If LSU would just worry about playing their best game regardless of circumstance or opponent, the more consistent and better off we would be.
We let who we play determine the way we play, and Les is a big reason behind that. Look at he Bluegrass Miracle, Saban was pissed afterwards. Call him an a-hole, prick, whatever. Now look at Les yesterday, or vs. the snap debacle vs. UT. Les was ecstatic. Never mind the fact that both Arky and UT should've been blown out. He was ecstatic.
Les just adds fuel to the inconsistent fire with his post game comments. If we had any type of consistency, we would be winning more, and in a more convincing way. But we never will under Les because he only gets his teams up for big games.

That's about the response I expected. Ignore the entire post because you see the name Saban.

so Oregon's coach is not in the "most coaches" club...got it. Being a miserable frick after an ugly win isn't the key to being a successful coach.

Les Miles is a good coach at a currently great program within a great recruiting area.
Unfortunately he has the almost impossible task of being constantly measured up to one of the greatest coaches of this era, who happens to be in his division, and who happens to have previously coached at his school. IMO no other coach in the country has as big a measuring stick as Miles, who has to compete against his predecessor every year.
This has been by far the greatest era of LSU football and people are still constantly calling for his head. Find me 5 current coaches that have won as consistently as Miles over the past 8 years.

No it isn't the key to being a successful coach. It does let your players know that it's not okay to play like shite against lesser teams though.
Not Les though. Boy what a great win!! Please continue to do what you have been doing to prepare for games against shitty opponents. Clearly it works great.

Why has he won so consistently over the past 8 years? Does it have anything to do with the environment he walked into?

OK, use the name Shorty...and I dislike the SOB personally...met him and don't like him...but he has perfected the recruiting process, period!!! No need to argue the point; it's simply a fact! I sorta' made a study of it, but won't bore ya' with details...yes, CM is a very good recruited, but does not have the same instinctive ability to recognize toughness and coach-ability that his quasi-nemesis does...sorry, but it appears to me to be true...and unfortunately, the name of this game is definitely recruiting!!!

I think CLM is a very good recruiter and they want to play for him but we will never win a championship again with him maybe the 9 or 10 wins a year which as long as the seats are payed for by the faithful such as myself he will still be around.
Yes !!!! Couldn't agree more !!!!

as I said earlier, most coaches celebrate the victory after the game, particularly if some great plays, defensive stops, etc. contributed to the win at the end of the game. You focus on the overall performance the next day in the film room and during the next practice.
I do agree that Les isn't as tough on habitual mistakes as he should be. He also has a tendency to believe that his team can just out-play the other team and doesn't worry about modifying the scheme much. But many coaches coach this way.

That's how I feel about the Alabama coach you are sweet on.

over 8 years, no. I would say 8 years is plenty of time for the program to return to sub-par levels of the 90's after a successful coach left. And it isn't like he was left with a program that is on par to Bama today, not really close to that.

Not ignoring the post. Just disagree. I don't think Les could have struck a better balance at that presser. Unhappy how badly they played, celebrating the victory, his team, and his young players, and still gave Arkansas their props. Sorry, but when Alabama blows a team out or wins a close one, and Saban gets up there with a scowl, it's classless and degrading to the opposing team. I understand where he's coming from, but that's better for a closed meeting. Maybe if Les's tone from in front the cameras carries over into the locker room, then we lose a bit of the edge, but it doesn't necessarily have to. Who knows how Les is going to handle Freak's performance or other issues of this game? Still, I'm proud we have Les representing Tiger Nation after games instead of a someone who comes across as a jerk. If we lose a game or two over it, so be it. Just my opinion.

Zero Saban players in 2011. We played an extra game Bama didn't have to play. We shouldn't have had to replay them. Alabama was just as talented as us and beat us in the second game. I hated it but damn to discredit what we did in 2011 is asinine. People that call for Les' head are just freaking retarded. Realistically if you get rid of the best coach (winning wise), who do you get that guarantees as much success? No one. Does anyone remember Saban's record in 2004 and that stupid loss to Iowa? Then Saban lost to ULM? When has Les lost to a non conference team in the regular season? Hmmm. Give me Miles and our streak of consistent winning. Spoiled fan base.
