Will they take a step back as they lose perhaps the best players at every level? Or will Aranda being able to do more schematically in year two offset the loss of leadership?

I think they have a chance to be even better this year because of talent and depth at DT. What looked like a weakness last year at times inside the run could be dominant like we haven't seen since 2011 if the young talent develops. I could be a year early on that, though.

We all expect an improved offense, but what is the general opinion on the defense in '17?

I honestly think we will be about the same, which is very good. We'll be deep upfront and somewhat young in the middle. The secondary losses of Tre White and Adams hurts but the rest has played a lot. Once again, not worried about the defense

losing white, adams, beckworth and godchaux is gonna hurt. by years end we should be OK but I lot of guys are going to need to get experience first.

Agree. I like the young guy's up front, but they need experience. We have a huge hole in the middle at LB and at safety to fill.

I think the LB's will develop quite nicely in Alexander and White.

And let's be honest.. we're DBU for a reason. Eric Monroe or another talented safety will fill the roll Adams left behind

I think the bowl game showed us a LOT. If you were paying attention, you saw a lot of the young D Linemen making plays. White looked VERY promising in that ILB thumper role. I think having Lac back will help the young guys, and let's me honest- talent trumps all. We will have more talent up front next year.

In my opinion, the biggest potential issue is the inexperience in the secondary early in the season. The talent is there, but how quickly does it gel?

Another plus that we all saw in the bowl game is the fact that our guys know Aranda's scheme, and he is starting to open things up and turn guys loose. We played pretty vanilla until the Mizzou game. The defense should come out of the gate with that same aggressive style we saw neutralize a very good Louisville offense. That can help to cover some of the inexperience.

On top of getting Lac back we get Corey Thompson, a starter last year before injury and Washington a solid possible starter. We'll be okay, lots of experience and talent.

There is too much talent and experience leaving to not take a step back. Plus they gave up the fewest touchdowns in the country. The defense is going to be nasty, but will likely take a small step back.

Will be different , could be better imo.
I see a lot of sacks and turnovers next year, we may give up a few more points though .

Maybe not top 3, but top 10-15 or more. The backfield has some solid experience. DJ made huge progress from his freshman year and can take the next leap. We all saw Tolivers potential freshman year and I think he returns to form. Then we have guys with insane talent in Fulton, Smith, Greedy, etc.....

Battle got better with each game and graded very well against Louisville. Then we have Monroe, Stevens, and Delpit.

I'm not really worried about the secondary, especially since our front 7 will bring the pain. Our DL is deep and returns good experience. Same for the linebackers.

Top 15 Defense/Top 30 Offense and I think we can compete with anybody. Those are attainable rankings for the team next year.

No LSU D will not be better. LSU D will be losing their top 4 tacklers if I'm not mistaken. You can't replace that

Uhh, yes you can if your talent is developed. Bama does it every year. It is likely we will take a step back but I am far from proclaiming it a done deal

You absolutely can replace your top tacklers in a given year. That is what talented teams do but also understand the concern around LB with Beckwith/Riley gone and depth issues post Chavez still affecting us. Overall feel the Aranda 2nd year will overcome drop off in a couple of areas to get even better

I agree. If Canada produces on O, it will keep the D fresh.

All relative. Defense will not be the reason we win or lose. It will do its job and the offense will have an opportunity at success.

It totally depends on guys adequately stepping up. Adams, TWhite, and Beckwith leave huge shoes to fill - especially in terms of leadership as they were the heart and soul.
