I'm thinking maybe we see a 2 guard (Bass and Spencer), 3 forward (Storm, Taz, Green) lineup unless we see something else happen in spring signing period.

in 2006-2007 Miss State and Ole Miss shared the SEC west title with an 8-8 record and neither went dancing

At least 9-3, prob a SEC Tourney win, too. Of course, it also depends who they beat, not just the record.
No history suggests that LSU needs to be 12-4 and get the SEC semi-finals to make the tourney.
Historically 9-7 gets an SEC team in. They may need a little more this year (with the weak SEC and no big wins), but 11 SEC wins total ought to be more than enough.

From what I hear, Dotson might be good enough to start as freshman. Good athlete, good scorer, and LSU is lucky to have him despite a lot of interest from Louisville. LSU obviously really needed him with Marcus Thornton on the way out.

Next year is gonna be scary for LSU even if Taz returns. They will be young and will be losing nearly 40 points on offense. People look at last years record and assume TJ inherited a bad team. That's not really the case. The Tigers returned the second leading scorer in the league, a 4th year junior moving to his natural position (taz) and a senior guard that is a beast on defense. Obviously there are holes...no center, no bench...this wasn't a terrible team though

That would be huge Stro. Really if he can get any of his incoming freshman to start immediately it would be big.

we are going to make the finals of the SEC tourney which should get us in easily if we take care of business in the reg season.

I dont see it happening, but hopefully I am wrong. I think this team is a team that could probably win the NIT though.
So on 2 separate occasions today I've been asked this today and I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my thoughts.
btw, both pretty much called me a crazy pessimist, gotta love that

good news is, im used to name calling now, thanks Tiger Rant

Anything can happen, but why in the hell wouldn't be favored to make the NCAA tourney?
Nobody else in the West looks formidable except MSU who we just crushed. We are already 3-1 and have a road win. History suggests 7-8 more wins total get us in easy. With several gimmes, and no impossible games left, that shouldn't be difficult.

If they win 22-23 in regular season and win at least one in SEC tourney, I think they will be fine.
+1

I'm pretty sure every SEC team with at least a 10-6 conference record got into the dance in the past.
7 more wins and we're in.

The bad thing though is the SEC is sorry this year, so just a good conference record doesnt really say much. Its gonna have to be a really good conf. record as well as some wins in the SEC Tourny. We HAVE to win at least one against UF, UT, and UK. If we lose all 3 then nothing else matters imo b/c we have no big wins...unless we win the sec tourny.

This isn't the first year the SEC sucked. I'll bet anyone anything that 10 wins gets any SEC team in.
Posted on 1/26/09 at 8:19 am to JustSmokin
We have to have at least one signature win to along with that record though.
We don't have it yet.

You are saying that LSU will not go dancing if it wins the West with a 22-10, 10-6 record (includes 1 SEC tourney loss) but doesn't have a signature win?
I'll take that bet, my friend.

Not trying to argue here, but yeah I think we would definitely be "on the bubble". We could get in with that if the West starts doing better, but not a sure thing at all imho.
Posted on 1/26/09 at 8:33 am to cjgulina
Nor am I. I don't think fans realize the history of SEC teams getting in with 10 conference wins. Anything is possible, but it would be the first time ever that a 10 win SEC team didn't get in.
A weak SEC will still get 4 or 5 teams in the tourney.

Yeah I'm not saying that with 10 conf wins lsu wont make it, but i think one of those needs to be against one of the big 3 in the East. That being said, I would be very surprised if we don't win one of em...thinkin Tenn this week.
