I just find it odd that Miles would go through his entire first season with Jimbo calling the plays, then more of the same the first 2 games of the next season, then boom, all of a sudden decide to call the plays

the position coaches do, but their decision can be overridden too, keep that in mind.
if crowton calls a play that WR a usually runs but he can see a slower DB on the field across from him, he may opt to send a speedier Wr in instead.
i guess the cliche certain coaches have a "feel for the game" comes into play.

I think it's funny the "assumption" that miles calls the "conservative" call. I guess his fourth down gambles or surprise field goals, onside kicks, and fake punts are the typical conservative calls. Guy obviously takes no risk.
Of course, When miles beat OU while at OSU, in the forth quarter, game is tight, it's third and short. He has his qb throw a pass down the left
sideline for a big gain. He wins because of that play. OU was number 1 at the time and appears headed back to the n.c. game. He's able to run out the clock for the W. I guess jimbo and crowton called that one! (p.s. same call as flynn to byrd against Au)
is it conceivable that miles can call some good plays since it's conceivable he calls bad ones?

What's it like to make the perfect call and they your guy misses the throw or wide open guy?
what's it like to have a great running formation against USC and then never use it again?

being generally conservative doesn't mean that a few smart calls make you some gambler
that's the myth of miles as the gambler. if you're running a conservative i-form, up the gut attack 75% of the game and then have 1 4th down conversion (that would be stupid not to attempt), you're not some gambler

i'm sure miles called all those plays too at OSU...

miles can always override a positional coaches ruling, and i doubt a positional coach would butt heads with the head coach (i mean that in the sense of, miles wouldn't have hired some guy he couldn't work with. a guy who didn't share the same philosophy)

our play calling has been pretty good since Crowton has been here
i dont see much of a problem
every team's fans, college and pro, come up with some faults in their teams playcalling. Even the best teams. Sometimes you just need to sit back and actually process what is going on.

the only real thing about the playcalling is when our coaches appear to forget good, creative plays that work
that and we get conservative for long stretches of times. miles' philosophy of a big, power, i-form offense drives me nuts sometimes

your absolutely right, l.s.u. has run up the gut in the I formation 75% of the time. IN 1958.
In the last 10 years we have been close to 50% pass and run. Some games 55% pass some games 55% run. overall, it's close. Even Auburn in 2006 we didn't come close to 60% run. matter of fact, passed more.
Rushing Attempts............ 23
Completions-Attempts-Int.... 20-37-0
just silly statements.

you can have an i-form power game and pass it 90% of the time, brotha

Well, as we all know, LSU tried to hire you to be the OC before they even talked to that clown.....

the thing is, your head coach seems to have a genuine trust for his staff.
trivia question. the auburn game a couple years back. the throw in the end zone with two seconds left, who do you think called that play?
knowing you guys you probably already know and have talked about this before, but keep in mind i'm just starting to follow your team like you guys do.

what were your thoughts on miles trying to call a timeout after a interception UT 2005?
or actually kicking a 63 yard field goal in 2008?
or taking scott out of the game for the 2nd half against kentucky 2007?
Those decisions are best left to 20/20 hindsight RANTards with no clue on what Miles was thinking.
