Why cant we sign a 5 star QB. We are seriously loaded in all positions except the most important?

Those guys aren't super keen to come to a place with 11 attempts a game and a bad track record.

Louisiana doesn't produce 5 star quarterbacks. most of the high schools put their best athlete at the qb position.

There was actually only 2 five star QBs in this years 247 composite rankings. But I agree that signing at least a four star QB every other year should not be that much to ask.

In very general terms, the recruiting services give out 5 star ratings to the best 25-35 or so guys in a class each year at all positions. A quarterback can be top a 5 qb prospect in the country and not have 5 stars.

Top 250ish to top 300ish get 4 stars.

Top 500ish to top 750ish get 3 stars, etc.

There are a ton of fricking kids that get recruited to play college ball every year at all different levels.

Why is "produced by LA" relevant? We signed a 5* QB in 2009 from Houston TX (Russell Shepard).

Saw how that turned out. I'll never get why he wasn't QB at LSU.

Since 2007 (Rivals ratings used):

2007 Jarrett Lee 4*
2008 Jordan Jefferson 4*
2009 Russell Shepard 5*
Chris Garrett 3*
2010 Zach Lee 4*
2011 Zach Mettenberger 4*
Jerrard Randall 4*
Stephen Rivers 3*
2012 Jeremy Liggins 3*
2013 Anthony Jennings 4*
Hayden Rettig 4*
2014 Brandon Harris 4*
2015 Justin McMillian 2*

In that time period, Rivals has had something like 17 5* QBs. Only Michigan, Notre Dame, and USC signed 2 5*s in that time frame. LSU signed one, and had one committed who never got on the plane.

Yet the only 5 star NEVER played QB, or even threw a pass.

Because they won't see the field right away. They have to sit two years behind Harris. These kids want to play right away

One of Michigan's transferred out after a season, as did one of Notre Dame's. Max Browne for USC has all of 15 career attempts thus far.

The actual point is that 5 star QBs are rare at roughly only 2 per year, and that extra star doesn't mean much. Alabama has signed 0 Rivals 5* QBs in the same time frame.

Yes, the rankings can be way wrong since we all can agree that Shepard was not a QB. It does surprise me that Alabama has not signed any since their recruits seem to get the "Bama bump" once they commit.
