Why wouldn't O be a great head coach?

Is your opinion based on his tenure at Ole Miss? I'm not sure that's a fair assessment. How many successful head coaches failed before they succeeded? Obviously his name never floats around when jobs come open, but while he's not my first or second choice, I'm not sure I'd be against the hire if he rights the ship.

Obviously he must pass the interview to be considered

I think the most glaring reason is that we need an offensive genius. I think we have the defense taken care of and he can be of more value there and in recruiting and saving the recruiting class.

Did you here his presser today? Some guys are head coaching material and some are not.

You can't tell how he will do until he does it. Give the guy a fair chance. Let the chip fall where they may. I hope Coach O succeeds beyond our wildest dreams.

I'm not saying he's the best guy for the job but you can have an offensive genius as an offensive coordinator. He doesn't have to be the head coach.

He could be. Wait and see. He's never had sustained success.

How shall I say this diplomatically. He isn't exactly a cerebral man.

Put it this way. Think of all the teams interested in hiring Herman at the end of this season. Now how many schools would have rushed to hire Orgeron at the end of this season had Miles been retained? Zero.

But if he's good enough to be our head coach, which means he probably finishes out the season with 2 or less losses, does that mean we retain Ensminger as OC...because it probably means he did a good job too. Then it's kind of like well, the same ole staff in many areas.

That's the danger you run in keeping things in place.

Why is LSU the only option for O has HC? Where are the other schools that see his potential?

Far too big a risk for a program like LSU.

It's not so much that O can't be a great coach, it's more that there are guys with better resumes on the it first.

Well that just directly proves that Les WAS the problem, which we already knew. Nobody thought the whole staff was bad, but they can't live up to their capabilities when they are handcuffed by the head coach.

So LSU fired a NC winning coach to hire a DL coach that's never even been a coordinator?

The head coach doesn't need to be a genius in either area of the game.

He needs to be the face of the program, and have the ability to make business decisions regarding coaches and players.

I think Coach O is a heck of a motivator, but I'm curious what he can do once the emotions mellow. I don't know if he has the offensive coaches around him to right the ship.

Most successful coaches succeed everywhere they've been.

But for those that fail somewhere, let them go elsewhere and build a resume of success before they're handed the keys to an elite program. Coach O hasn't done that. So too big a risk for us.

I'm curious to see if his teams would be prone to emotional lows since he has such high energy, that it seems it could be hard to sustain that through an entire season. I think he is the perfect interim coach and might be a great long-term solution. His energy and focus are what the team probably needs now more than a lot of things. He appears to be incorporating a lot of what Pete Carroll did at usc who isn't too shabby.

yes, that is what formed my opinion. a head coach is the CEO of a large corporation and I just don't see him as able to handle all of the shite that has to happen off the field.

however, he has most of a season to turn this around...if he can pull this season back out of the shitter, I will be impressed.
