On January 4, 2004, every LSU fan tasted something 70% of us had never tasted before. When Nick Saban held that Crystal Ball over head and every LSU fan was partying the night away, little did we know that LSU football would never be same.
Everything changed from a fan and players perspective because WE KNEW WE COULD COMPETE with any team in the nation and win! We could compete in recruiting and in doing so, we could compete on the field week in and week out.
Then on December 25 2004 the guy who showed us all these great things we were capable of left and LSU needed to find somebody to keep us at the top.

LSU needed a coach who could:
- keep our state locked down
- bring in top flight talent in the positions our state couldnt supply.
- At least split Auburn & Florida (at that time) bc those were the 2 best and most consistant programs we faced during that time. This will give us the best chance at winning the west.
- Beat the hell out of the small teams and beat the middle weight teams of the SEC that were competitive (Arkansas, Ole Piss, Tenn, South Carolina and UGA) on their rotation/or good year.
-Make great position coach hires and cordinator hires.
Well things have changed since then and now UF and Bama are the 2 big games every year we must, at worst, split in order to contend for the west.

So we put our trust in Les is More and we hired the Mad Hatter.
Now I will be there first to admit that:
1) Les has done an outstanding job at recruiting. Nobody can deny that.
2) Was loyal to LSU when his Alma Mater came calling.

However he is not doing these things:
1) Developing talent as it should be.
2) Putting the best players on the field and maximizing our talent advantage.
3) Utilizing our talent in big games to give his players the best chance at winning.
4) Making in game decisions.
5) Playing to our strengths and to the talent we have at that particular season. He constantly tries to pound a square peg in a round hole, year in and year out!
6) failed miserably with the Malveto project (fixed it though with Chavis) Now its Crowton.

So I ask all you "positigers" how can you be happy with where the program is?
Can you not see the fine line that has been walked this year with miracle wins at Miss St, UGA and a horrible game against Tech?
We have only played 1 complete game all year and that was against Auburn.
This is rediculous guys! All the signs are there that our program is walking a fine line between a good team and disaster. If recruiting fails for 1 year, LSU will do so for a long time under Miles.
Awesome talent is making up for Miles incompetence right now. How long will it keep his hat above water?

Les won an national Championship in his third year here. I know those are Saban's recruits but they were coached my les for three years. Some of them were Les's recruits, some had never even played a snap for Saban. So i don't get it when people say he can't develop talent.

The Rant needs more analysis like this, and less black-or-white, with us or against us talk.

SammyTiger....Lets evaluate that NC

Was it Les Mile's coaching ability that got us into that NC or was it the fact that 2 teams lost on the last game of the season and we got in because of pure luck and the football god's grace.
That year we Les Miles coached us out of a NC but luck put us back in.
Les lost to Kentucky for benching Scott the entired 2nd half. HE HAD OVER 100 YARDS IN THE FIRST HALF!
Then he lost to Arkansas because he could not take advantage of early awesome field position and Mcfadden and their fullback coming out of the back field ALL DAY!

How long can we be successful on talent alone? Uhhh by my count we have another top 5 top ten class coming in again this year to go along with ESPN's top class last year, top 5 the year before that so I am gonna say we remain top ten for another 2-3 years at least....

les got lucky. No way we should have lost to an unranked KY and Ark at home. We had the cards fall in place.

1) Developing talent as it should be.
NFL Scouts disagree.
2) Putting the best players on the field and maximizing our talent advantage.
Oh he puts em on the field....
3) Utilizing our talent in big games to give his players the best chance at winning.
We have a winner!
4) Making in game decisions.
This covers a LOT of ground. Just let me say the palaycalling this year has me flummoxed.

5) Playing to our strengths and to the talent we have at that particular season. He constantly tries to pound a square peg in a round hole, year in and year out!

Do I get royalties-you are stealing my stuff.
6) failed miserably with the Malveto project (fixed it though with Chavis) Now its Crowton.
Yes, but fixed his error.

Look LES, HATES losing. He hates it. He will get the Offense fixed during bowl preparation. Lets just hope they beat Ole Miss and Arky , display "the want" Les always talks about in these season-making two games, and we go into a bowl 10-2 and primed for a top five finish.

If we want to talk about talent, the only reason we beat tech was talent. It sure wasn't coaching, it wasn't game preparation, it wasn't in-game changes.....it was because we had more talent. And honestly, the game was so poor that one would almost question if we had more talent.

Les won the NC and did a good job the years leading up to that. Once he started having to play with his own guys, he and his coaches couldn't evaluate the talent enough to decide who should play. When he got here, the starters were pretty much set so there wasn't much thought put into it. He just let them play and use the coaching they got before. Now the coaches can't coach up the new talent they brought in. Jimbo also had a lot more to do with the success than people want to believe.

So since we had 2 loses we didn't deserve to be NC? is that what your saying? As i remember there all the other top team at the time also had 2 loses besides ohio state. Hawaii was undefeated, and that was about it. So should the NC have been Hawaii and Ohio State or were we really the best team in the Country. Which we were.

Please, give it a rest.

The man won a NC, SEC titles, always recruits top notched kids and field a competitive team - see generally his number of wins.

Plus, you left out one MAJOR thing he also did that not many other coaches would have, including your boy Nick S. Not only did he turn down his alma mater for LSU, but he also kicked that thug Perriloux off the team.

The significance of that decision cannot be understated, nor can it be apprecaited, sadly, by many on this board. Do you think he was not aware that such a decision would cripple his team AND his personal fortune at LSU for the next few years?

Despite all that, he made his decision on character, honor, and what was right. Those are the kind of decisions upon which his legacy will be judged. Those are the kind of decisions that allow him to recruit top tier talent.

If you can't look beyond seeing a 10+ win season as a loss, sprinkled with a few NC and/or SEC titles, and bowl blow-outs, then you are short-sighted, and need to learn a lot about life and football.

You do realize that had Hawaii not lost to Boise on the same night as the SEC championship in 2003 that LSU would not have got the first BCS championship right ?

Sammytiger,
How many 2 loss teams have won a NC since the BCS was inducted? Only 1, LSU. We won because everything fell into place that year, not because Les Miles and his coaching abilities.

So i will say Florida Was lucky in 2006 that they got to play Ohio state and not Michigan that that just worked out for them. Also they are lucky Utah doesn't play in a BCS conference.

Did you watch Michigan get tuned up by USC in the Rose Bowl back in 2006? Florida would have owned Utah as well. Are you saying Utah was the best team in the country last year? And back to 2007, Oklahoma and USC had just as much of an argument to play in the championship game as well. They were both two-loss conference champions. In fact Oklahoma demolished #1 Missouri in the Big 12 Championship Game. Why couldn't they go? We went because of our game against VA Tech during week 2 of that season.
