Holy wall of text Batman. Hit return after every 3 sentences or so to make long posts easier to read.

You did bring up a lot of good points.

LSU does a great job of rotating backups into the line up throughout every game. While this not only keeps players fresh, it builds quality experience for younger guys.

Looking at the number of returning starters for LSU is very misleading.

I agree with the OP.

When we hired John Chavis, I really thought he was "just a name".....a kind of old SEC re-tread type guy. I could not have been more wrong.

I don't know that I've ever seen a coach better at:

a: maximizing the talents of those under his charge (evidenced by moving folks from/to SS to/from LB)

b: making real time adjustments (evidenced by A and M game last year) and

c: talent evaluation and development (evidenced by his offering of a scholarship/use of TM7)

We continually have top 5 or 10 recruiting classes, and as long as he's the coordinator, I've got faith that "the next guys in line" will get the job done.

LSU should have played for a national championship last year. They absolutely had Bama beat. I don't understand - at all - the national perception that LSU is a team in decline. Top to bottom, from head coach down the kicker, I'd rather be going into the 2013 season with our guys before any other collective group.

This team will be fine, and hopefully, the lack of way to early respect will serve as motivation.

Those thinking that Mett can't get it done apparently didn't watch the Alabama game, which is the ONLY game inwhich he was turned loose.

Miles chooses to win games by showing as little imagination as necessary. Offensively, w/CC as OC, I think we see a much more prolific offense, and with Chavis as DC, like I said earier, I feel very confident that our defense will be just fine.

No one has mentioned the biggest concern for this team -

Special teams

Specifically kicking and punting

I have faith, but it could easily cost us a game or two. We have had great kicking in the past. Unproven kickers this year for sure

Keehn looked fine last year.

After the spring game I am a little concerned that we won't have a consistent FG kicker.

Here's to hoping our offense won't need one.

Y'all don't forget this bad boy named Kendall Beckwith!! He's going to be a monster out there, hope he plays and doesn't RS? We will see? I also think this team will surprise lots of people. Love when everyone writes the Tigers off Love it!

Punting won't be an issue.

Punting might. Reports are that Kheen has less consistency than Wing and that he shanks more than wing ever did.

I hope he improves and this isn't the case.

But the older I get, the more I need to see it on the field to believe it.

Beckwith gets talked about on the board quite a bit. I doubt anyone forgets about him.

Honestly I am kind of indifferent, but thanks for asking.

Yes, we should know pretty early on if he will redshirt or not.

i think the defense will be good enough to win big games. freak and ego's play will be huge in determining how good. if our offense is as improved as we all hope for, i think we can turn alot of heads. wouldnt be surprised at a bcs bowl or 5 loss season.

You guys have covered things well! The biggest advantage this defense could have, is an improved offense. Too much time on the field led to some of out late game collapses. The defense was on the field too long in too many games! Personnel wise, linebacker will be solid as well as the line and defensive backs. I don't see a drop off. IF, and that's a big IF, the offense can sustain drives and control the clock. This years defense, will go down as one of the best in school history. Combine this years recruiting class with the one that we are expecting, and the Tigers, will stay an elite program.

I'm not going to question your numbers in regards to returning starters. Mine are a little different.

With the amount of players LSU rotates in returning starters aren't as big a deal as some schools.

I see the '13 defense returning similar numbers as '12.

'12 defense - five returning starters and another ten that played in regular rotation. Total of 15 that saw action in every game, bama on down.

Granted some of the lesser opponents saw more defensive players hit the field. Those 15 saw the field VS bama so they are legit SEC quality.

The '12 defense had NINE Jr and Sr starters.

'13 defense - four returning starters and another 11 that saw defensive snaps in every game, bama on down. Quality do doubt.

Just like '12 thats 15 players returning that played defense in every game. Situation, score, quarter and time on clock didn't matter.

Coming out of spring the starters consisted of NINE Sr and Jr starters for the '13 defense.

The big difference between what we returned for '12 and '13 is the DL. Last season the DL was way deeper but, it looks like '13 "D" will be more experienced and deeper in the back seven.

Have all the confidence in the world that Brick and Chief will have the D-line loaded for bear heading into conference play.

Kickoff's in about two weeks? Right?

I to believe that by our 4th game we will have at least 1 or hopefully 2 of our incoming freshmen studs breakout & have an SEC Freshman of the Year type year. Some of those guys are gonna have to step up, especially at LB & DE.

Last minute of the Alabama game.

Overall I agree with you, Chavis' D will be good. We lose guys but plug more in and yes, we have good experience returning.

I like us under the radar right now and not getting much respect. Just play the games and everything will work out.
