Because Linehan and Ensminger like each other. That’s literally the explanation for hiring him and dropping the pursuit of Lombardi or Munoz who are much better fits.

How many unemployed NFL offensive coaches are leading elite college teams right now?

How many guys with Brady’s resume are? And where does the idea come from that only young guys can innovate? The implication being by the time Brady is 50, he’ll be washed up and incapable of innovation. Furthermore, some good college offenses were run by older people this year.

I never said there weren’t good young coaches. There are also good NFL offensive coaches who are not young at all.

You are also selective with who you choose to list for a team. For instance, Ensminger gets no credit for LSU and the co-OC for Oklahoma get no credit. No I’m not making the case that the offensive success this year was Ensminger alone.

I give Credit where it is due.

That’s Riley’s offense

That’s Ryan Day’s offense.

That’s Brady’s offense.

I honestly don’t know enough about SMU to say if it is Libby or Dykes. Libby is from the Briles tree (married his daughter I think) but Dykes has had successful offenses.

So I put both.

My guess is that Orgeron thinks his hands can keep going what Brady and aranda brought in. Pelini was a good hire who knows what he’s doing. This PGC was really uninspiring

Fair enough, so maybe Brady was just the Saints offense. My only point is that it’s not only young guys who can do it. If you believe that then you believe Brady will start to degrade at 45 or so.

Not really. He did a good job adapting concepts it to college players.

The saints still huddle every play, we don’t.

The saints still take a lot of snaps under center
We don’t

Payton loves using different personnel grouping , we used 11 almost always.

The tempo. We obviously take advantage of RPOs more.

Also it’s one thing to say Oklahoma’s offens is Riley’s it’s another to say LSU’s is Sean Payton’s

The big difference is Payton never coached at LSU

Linehan is 10 years younger than Saban.
Age is not necessarily the determining factor for knowledge.

Why not allow Coach to hire whom he sees fit. It's his job to keep or lose.

Because if a young coach does good, they’ll be headed to the nfl after one year, Coach o trying to build a dynasty. Trust him to make the right choices, and please stop worrying so much. We’ve already had the perfect season.

Linehan is a very accomplished OC in the NFL. Trust Coaches O and E and Woody to make a good hire to fit our system.

I also Don’t thin 20 years of NFL experience always translates to the college game.

Didn’t for Cameron Didn’t for Sullivan and honestly you don’t see it all that often.

People want a young guy because we want the next great kind. This position either attract you g people on the way up or older people
Taking a step back in their career.

Yes! This!

I will wait and see on the hire but my biggest concern is that we’re trying to run a spread college team with a bunch of Pro-style coaches.

You guys that keep saying Steve is retiring soon don't get it. He's not interested in retiring soon. He loves his job, the challenge, and the paycheck.

They may have the idea of grooming one of the younger analysts like Russ Callaway for that job. I’m not crazy about the hiring of SL either but I think it’s more of a team effort with all of the coaches including the analysts at this point as opposed to one or two guys. Our coaching resources are matched by very few and I don’t think the roles are as cut and dry as a lot of posters make them out to be.
