Not only is Les Miles an amazing, unique coach, but also he is equally a great human being.
I down voted the whole pike of crap, but for the love of god, stop this shite.
No, Le$ Mile$ is NOT a great man. No one at Michigan, Colorado, the Cowboys or Okie St. holds this view of Le$. No one.
You have no basis in fact to make this statement. You're pathetically searching for SOMETHING/ANYTHING that you think allows you to say Mile$ is better than Saban. This isn't it.

Excellent "first" post although I don't think it really is. It's too well thought out and presented. Unfortunately, the doom and gloom posters are mainly kids who didn't experience losing to Bama year in, year out under the Bear. For those, anything less than perfection is unacceptable. It's for them that we have dumbed down our schools. Rather than teach kids to think and apply what they've learned, we teach the test. That is why they couldn't read and understand your post, so they flame away.
Look forward to more posts.

I'm 52 years old, been going to the games since the 1960's, graduated from LSU, remember when the Bear beat LSU year-after-year, endured Archmindardo, and still think the OP's tome is a load of crap. LSU will never be a major player in CFB under Les Miles. He's done. Enjoy mediocrity, but, hey, at least it's "not the Nineties...yet."

I thought I was abundantly clear in my opening post, when I praised Nick Saban as the greatest head coach of the BCS era, but perhaps I fell short in delivering that message.
My intention was not to degrade Saban's legacy, or persuade anyone to believe Miles is a superior coach - but simply state that both are great coaches. Am I not entitled to the opinion that Les MIles is a goodhearted man, who exemplifies integrity on and off the field? How come so many of his former players think of him as a father figure and would gladly play for him again? Certainly they wouldn't make these bold statements if my claim had no merit? I do not recall Les Miles ever slandering an entire state or culture shortly after leaving a team, do you?
Les Miles is the most popular coach in college football for good reason - and LSU is lucky enough to have him on board. We need to appreciate him as long as he stays here.

That litany of BS excuses was probably written by somebody in the LSU Sports Information office and posted here by one of the AD Operatives masquerading as a Rant poster. I'm convinced many of the nutty Sunshine Pumper posts are the same.

I applaud you for having a positive outlook and always appreciate when fans take the time to write something thoughtful and substantive, but I'm just not quite sure if I'm comprehending your central argument here. Are you suggesting that LSU is in the "best" position simply because Bama's unparalleled success is setting Tide fans up for a serious hangover once Saban leaves and they return to Earth? That's a fairly terrible argument.
And for the record, I'm not a doomsdayer, and I certainly believe that LSU is poised to remain a relevant top 10 program. But there are a number of teams who appear to on the upswing, while you can't definitively say the same thing about us (tOSU, FSU, Mizzou, Clemson, even Auburn to name a few).

The last thing we want is our beloved football team processed by some egotistical autocrat.
As I wrote after the game, a fair argument can be made that we have been processed. I can't remember a time since 2003 when we practically expected to lose a game, got blown out, and then had several fans come back to tell us how a 21-point asswhipping wasn't really such a poor showing. The fact that a loss to Saban is practically considered acceptable speaks volumes about how we view our team relative to Alabama.
At the very least, our expectations have been processed.

Thanks for the feedback Navytiger74, and you have my sincerest gratitude for your service.
Firstly, I do not wish my opening post being viewed as an 'argument' at all, but more of an 'observation'. Based on this observation I'm making an informed prediction of LSU's future. My stance is that we will have prolonged success, indirectly impacted by Alabama's ephemeral, albeit historic dynasty. To be perfectly clear, LSU's destiny is not dependent upon Bama. However, we will capitalize on their inevitable demise - it is an instinctive reaction in such a situation.
In regards to the processing comment - keep in mind that we've been very competitive with Bama, except the BCSNCG. We came out flat - but obviously proved we were equally as talented, given the fact we pummeled them at home the SAME season. It's highly improbable to beat an equally talented team consecutively in ANY sport. 2011 is still one of the best teams EVER in college football - do not forget this. It's just a shame two of the best teams ever played in the same season, same conference, same division
Sure - we're the underdogs this season; but as before-mentioned, we lost half of our starters from last year. We will recover very soon. Les is a damn strong recruiter.

Someone has finally cleared everything up. LSU fans are supposed to be content to finish 3rd or 4th in the SEC, go to a little bowl game, and bow down to Bama until Saban leaves. OK. Good luck with that.

Finally, a poster with intelligence. You better watch out though, the rantards, who call themselves fans, but never sniffed the halls of an LSU classroom, will call you every name in the book. Unfortunately, ignorance dominates this board. I definitely agree with you post 100%.
Agreed. It's like they just wait for someone to make sensible comments, and out flows the negativity. Thank goodness their opinion does not speak for all who post comments here.

THERE IS NO DECLINE – only a cycle of damn strong football teams that are talented enough to compete with any football team in the country. We are in position to contend for a national championship every year; regardless of the experience we field each game. Opposing teams cower in fear playing in Death Valley, a venue that is still unrivaled to this day. We all need to stand behind our school and support it more than ever, no matter what. Negativity will get us nowhere fast – positivity will outlast. God bless and Geaux Tigers!
