Just a thought after watching some of these bowl games..... I realize talent and coaching are the "strong grasp for the obvious" top 2 answers but there has to be a bit more to it than that. If you watch an LSU game the thing that stands out to me is the individual intensity and commitment on EVERY play!

The special teams are even more intense b/c everyone seems to believe something good is going to happen every time whether its a kickoff, punt, or return. One theory is when you do great things on the football field consistently you just start to believe it's going to happen and that's half the battle.

You could see the Notre Dame team lose their will to win (or so it seemed) when Fla. State started their 4th qtr. comeback. Having a QB (like ND's) making bad decisions did not help their cause.

IMO the LSU players and coaches believe that no matter who is on the field (at QB or any other position) they will come thru when needed. They say a lot of sports is mental once you get to a certain level and I believe that to be true - especially at the collegiate level.

Alabama may think they have a great chance to beat LSU on Jan. 9th and they probably do. They probably also thought it was a given they were going to win in Tuscaloosa back in Nov. and we all know how that turned out. I guess you call it "will" to win or whatever. It's served LSU well for 2011 season. Expect and believe 100% that LSU will prevail again on Jan. 9th. I'm sure Les and the coaches and players have no doubt!

Every guy is committed to every play. Watch how this team celebrates a big TD on the sideline. The defense is estatic when the offense scores. The offense is going crazy when the defense brings in a score. Both units celebrate like hell on special teams scores.

This team loves to play together. It's a perfect, amazing blend. The coaches deserve all the credit in the world for pulling together, what I have witnessed, as the best team I've seen.

With all due respect, I disagree. 90% of the Bama fans I know were nervous as hell about the LSU game. The idea that all Bama fans were so confident on 11/5 is wrong.

The Want!

Watching all these shitty bowl games has been rough. The players are just kinda going through the motions. Not much excitement on defense either

The team unity is astounding w/ this group of guys. There's not really any individual on the sidelines being a cancer to the team. There's no Byrd causing anamosity among the ranks and even the JJ of years past (with his crybaby face and what seemed to be a piss poor attitude) is now gone.

Its really nice to see Ware congratulate hilliard and vice/versa as a good example. There doesn't seem to be a bit of hate or self loathing at all

I think another caveat to it is the fact that we have a ton of kids from LA. It's pretty unique that no matter where you are in the state, you hear about LSU all the time. You grow up listening, watching and cheering for the Tigers. I know this isn't the case for everyone but it's unique here in Louisiana with only 1 flagship school.

Great post.

On special teams LSu plays their starters. I have seen sequences where Mo Claiborne, Matthieu, Eric Reid, Ron Brooks, Brandon Taylor...I even saw Michael Ford on coverage. These players want a chance to do something at every possible moment

Besides the obvious, we have some talented, intense players... this team has that certain chemistry it takes to win... they believe in their coach and believe in ea h other ..... alot of confidence(swagger), but not too much as to be detrimental... it all starts with the coach, he toes the line, sets the perimeters and the player's play. CLM lets them be who they are also, not a bunch of trained robots.

Great post.

Simply, on this team there is so much talent that if someone would take a play off and get replaced someone might take their spot. You have to bring it every second of every play on offense, defense or special teams. Watch Landry play special teams and tell me this kid take plays off! I wouldn't want to be minded up opposite of him.

Not to diminish the Tigers' achievements but it's because LSU is in a state that leads the nation in athletes per capita going to the NFL and because there is no one to compete for talent in that state, which in turn leads to much more $$$ and $$$ talks.

Um because they are the best team in the nation no doubt about it. Just look at LSU's schedule and then look at other team's in the country schedule's. You pretty much answered your OWN question there buddy
