If LSU was the only school to stop testing we would be #1 in recruiting every year until other schools got with the times.

Who gives a frick if it’s against the law at the moment. It’s being decriminalized and and legalized on the state level in many states. In the grand scheme of things, it’s harmless. Therefore they shouldn’t test for it. There is absolutely no reason for the NCAA to play police, prosecutor and judge on this issue.

The 2 big flaws with your theory is that

1) you assume all the players would or want to smoke weed every day.

2) LSU doesn't really seem to have any sort of issue with players drinking. At least I can't think of an example where an LSU player was kicked off the team just for drinking

If kids can't do without it... then they have bigger issues.

Who cares if people think it's stupid for the NCAA to test for weed smokers. The fact that they kids continue to smoke weed, which is ILLEGAL in the state of LA... is the real issue. Just stop breaking the law or until you get drafted and then go be a grown arse man. Once in the league and these kids start losing paychecks over weed, maybe they'll learn.

Yeah it was definitely marijuana that made LSU lose its investment in players like Tyrann Matthieu who was promising but never made a single good play on the field right? Or was he playing like a fricking legend and his career here was cut short because of a stupid fricking policy

It was both. You guys who think weed is harmless are kidding yourselves. Then you throw out the alchohol comparison. Like two wrongs make a right. That’s a juvenile argument. I have had numerous first-hand observations of weed degrading peoples’ motivation and accomplishments dating back to my college days in the early 80’s. Many of my friends smoked weed regularly, and the ones who smoked it daily were failing out of school. Several of them quit and resurrected their academic career; several never quit and failed out; and a few were able to smoke weed regularly and still get by.

Tyrann? I don’t know, but I’d bet that as his weed use increased he would have done worse - not physically, but in learning his assignments and studying game film.

I’d bet you weren’t part of a big time college football team that you knew If you tested positive there would be repercussions... such as suspension from team.

Little bit different situation no?

I feel bad that I had to explain that. I swear some of you are mentally retarded.

I don’t smoke it-I don’t like it. Regardless, I can tell you with 100% certainty that weed is not more harmful than alcohol, and I would much prefer my college age kids smoke weed rather than get plastered drinking. These articles you cited seem to be agenda driven fake news and reaching.

Because it actually is addictive despite what many people choose to deny. It isn't addictive like cocaine or heroin, but it is to a lesser degree. In some ways, that makes it even harder for certain people to stop using.

That the part I don't get, yes the policy is stupid, but just don't do it until the rules are changed, develop some discipline.

It will be legal soon so why is it so hard to just let them smoke it.
