I watch a lot of NBA ball. There aren't 3 players on each of those teams better than Ben Simmons RIGHT NOW. He's only going to get better as he matures.

If Ben played on the Australian Team, are they in today's gold medal game?

There are 30 NBA teams. You think every single team has at least 3 players better than Ben Simmons? Think again.
Name 3 players you would take over Ben from the Sixers, Nets, Timberwolves, Suns, and Lakers. I'll wait.

The question was RIGHT NOW
76ers: Okafor, Noel, Covington
Lakers: Clarkson, Randle, Russell
Suns: Bledsoe, Booker, Chandler
TWolves (EASY): KAT, Wiggins, Lavigne
I'll concede Nets to you. Point is these players are established NBA starters. RIGHT NOW, what has Simmons proven to make you think he's better than the listed players? He's young and talented, yes. If I were starting a team I'd pick him over all but maybe Wiggins and Towns. But RIGHT NOW IN THIS CURRENT TIME, I can't say he's better than any of these players.

I'm sure he wasn't invited since he just became a pro yesterday.
He was playing summer league NBA while his erstwhile Aussie teammates were practicing together.
even if he can't shoot much better in 3.5 years, he will contribute in other ways to the Aussie national team. he will probably contribute to their world champion tourney team too, which is two years from now.
a whole year of NBA ball under his belt will do him wonders.

I'll give you the TWolves as I think KAT and Wiggins are both studs. Looking at the rest of your list though, I think I'd agree with you that I'd take Ben third right now without him even playing a minute of NBA ball. He's certainly better than Noel and Covington on the Sixers roster. Okafor is a lot like Simmons in that he looks good on the stat sheet, but can you really say he makes your team better? Jury is still out on that.
I honestly believe he's a better player than all three of your picks from both the Lakers and Sixers. Those Suns players are so different from Ben that it's kind of hard to compare what the two do, but if this was my draft pool I'd take Simmons over all three.
My top 5 from this list:
1. Karl Anthony Towns
2, Andrew Wiggins
3. Ben Simmons
4. Eric Bledsoe
5. Jahlil Okafor
I don't like Julius Randle's game at all. Covington and Lavigne aren't anything special and are only role players on bad teams. Tyson Chandler has had himself a nice career, but again I'm not sure he changes the dynamics of your team.
Ben will be an All Star for many years in my opinion. Very few of these other guys have that potential.

uh........ because he is a candy arse..............
Simmons SUCKS arse. Maybe a good individual player but has NO concept of what a TEAM is. I predict he will be a wash out in the NBA. He won't last but a few years with the 76ers....................

You'll be proven wrong pretty quickly. There's a reason NBA scouts have been drooling over this kid for two years.

This list of NBA BUST players is full of players that scouts drooled over. I wouldn't want his candy arse anywhere near a GOOD team...................
I mean he had such a spectacular SEC season????????
What records did he set? He couldn't hack college basketball so I am supposed to believe he is Jesus fricking Christ in the NBA?????

He had one of the best freshman seasons statistically ever.

Ben Simmons isn't good enough to play on the U.S. team. He could have maybe played for Australia, but they have a group of guys that have been playing together awhile. Not sure if Simmons is a guy that fits in if he's not the center of the gameplan.
Back when they got the Bronze in 2004.

And on an even bigger scale, when is the last time this many superstar basketball players across the globe said "no thanks" to the Olympics?

He had a good year, but not "one of the best ever". LSU didn't even make the tournament.
There were a lot of guys that averaged those numbers and had winning teams, teams that went deep into the tournament. Some freshman even blossomed in the tournament.
