Why is Ben Simmons not playing in the Olympics?

For either Australia or the US?
And on an even bigger scale, when is the last time this many superstar basketball players across the globe said "no thanks" to the Olympics?
I have a feeling we will be getting a very subpar product because of the current climate in Brazil this year.

Of course he was invited. He turned it down months ago. And he isn't going because he wants to focus on his pro team and becoming a leader and good player in the organization.
Also, OP...there have been lots to turn down the Olympics. Especially this year.

They usually invite one player who is about to play his first professional season, and you don't think he wouldn't be the first player Australia would put on their roster?

Who is they? It's rare for players to play the year they get drafted. Simmons was also apparently upset when he was left off the World Cup team 2 summers ago.

It's not like it's impossible for an upcoming rookie to make the final roster.
