No.
Is it important?
Yes, yes it is.....

Weak schedule killed Brady a few years in hoops
It would take us like 3 games to get going in the conference
yeh, and i dont think its as much of a huge deal in baseball. Really just nitpicking, but if there is anything to complain about, its the OOC scheduling.....and javi sanchez. But thats for another day.
just tired of playing teams every weekend that would finish last in the SEC. It's obviously good for the young guys to get their feet week, but for guys like Mahtook, hardly a challenge.
The biggest thing i am afraid of is our young pitchers not seeing any good bats. SEC will roll around, and everyone will be complaining about how awesome our FR were in OOC and how they are pitching poorly in SEC.

That remains to be seen, but it's no different than any other year. In baseball, much more so than basketball and football, you've gotta crawl before you walk...that especially applies to pitchers.

We've played them 3 out of the last 4 years, including a three-game series at the Box in Mainieri's first season here. And we play them again this year in the Pontiff game at Zephyr. That makes it 4 out of the 5 seasons Mainieri has been here.
sorry, but 1 weekday game vs USM isnt going to erase a weekend series against The Sacred Heart.
and they were just an example. Do i really need to list one that we haven't played to get my point across?

I used to crush javy at third until that coach we talked about one night told me that coaching third is the hardest thing to do

The bottom line is that the point of these early season weekends is to tinker with lineups and pitching rotations, get as many different arms as much work as possible in determining a weekend rotation, find yourself a 1-2 combination on the mound, along with some setup guys and a closer...all the while winning ballgames while doing so.
how is pitching and hitting against bad players a good way to determine who should be playing for you when it matters?
tinkering is good. you can do that playing against anyone. tell me why you cant.

and in this case, we will be going from "crawling" to "running".

At least we get csf before Florida

im not going to stoop to your level and ruin a thread like you love to do.
answer me this, if given the option of playing these 2 teams at the box, would you rather play East Carolina or Sacred Heart? say in the 4th weekend of the season in any given year

I know CSF is coming in a few weeks, but that's it? Surely LSU could schedule someone better than a 3 game weekend series with Holy Cross
It's simple . We are the kings and people schedule us, not the other way around. We just approve or or send them a "Request denied" stamp.
Would you rather us lose a series to Illinois again?

shite, even schedule teams in LA to come and play at the box. We have enough good teams that would make better series than Holy Cross or Princeton..mid week vs Sacred Heart or Miss Valley state.
Coach PM has had some pretty horrible OOC scheduling since he has arrived.
really if you look at our schedule, we wont play a team that tests us until we play CSF. That is 13 games into the season. We start SEC play after the CSF series.
Agreed with all of this. I rather see a three game set with Tulane or Southeastern. Maybe ULL if we can handle that.

God forbid the mighty LSU loses a series prior to conference play...
I think everyone in this thread acknowledges that LSU is THE premier college baseball team. Using that assumption why wouldn't they want to play a home and home with UT or Rice? Besides for MONEY and "We are LSU" there isn't a logical reason.

Here are my thoughts on how LSU should schedule games:
1) Schedule at least one premier weekend series like CSF this year (3 or 6 games)
2) One gimme series, like Duquesne or Holy Cross (3 games)
3) One or two middle of the road series like Kansas a couple years ago. (3 or 6 games)
4) Have all of those series with teams from different parts of the country. A west coast, a mid west, a Carolinas school, and a Florida school.
5) 30 SEC games
Series take up 42 of 56 regular season games.
Mid week: (14 games)
1) NO SWAC TEAMS (unless it's Southern)
2) ULL, SELU, and Tulane are the only state schools we should play every year.
3) ULL and SELU get home and homes on even years, just games at the box on odds. Tulane always gets home and home.
4) Rotate the other state schools in excluding any team about to drop down in competition and Grambling. Play 2 or 3 a year.
5) Play a game in Shreveport, preferably against a team from out of state, like TCU, Oral Roberts, or Dallas Baptist
6) Play either USM or Rice every year home and home. They are close enough to do this.
7) Pontiff classic: Bring in good teams from out of state.

I would rather see LSU play E. Carolina than Sacred Heart.
But E. Carolina has to agree to do it, don't they? Do you know if they would? I don't.
And that's twice you've brought up Sacred Heart, and that's after you said a single mid-week game doesn't matter, which is what we played when we played SH once since Mainieri has been here. So why do you keep bringing that team up?
Again, how old do you think I am? And why does that matter to you anyway?

That's pretty sound. I think you could turn the Pontiff Classic into something more than it is now and it would be a BIG attraction.

i can agree with just about all of that. Except i cant see LSU traveling to play weekend series in hammond or lafayette. would prob have to be midweek games.

LSU needs on premier OOC series every year of nationally ranked caliber.
Plus the other home-home series needs to be with instate schools with consistent programs. They would bring more if not the same revenue to LSU.
Bring in smaller area schools like USM or say Houston (if they have a baseball program) for mid week.. There are alternatives to playing these Catholic Schools...and Wake Forest isn't exactly competition.

I put them in the mid-week category. I don't think we should ever play an in-state school on the weekend unless it is in a round-robin that we would host.
