I don't give a shite if the bowl was in iceland, wanting to play a number 18 team over a number 8 team is moronic. The whole point of going to a bowl game isn't to go sit in a nice stadium and drink a few beers... it's to watch your program hopefully knock off the highest possible ranked team it can in the national spot light and earn some much needed respect. This whole crappy stadium versus Dallas thing just goes to show how LSU's fanbase has gone from die hard traditional LSU fans to corporate ticket galore.

People seem to fail to realize the drive isn't much different either.

I get that, and it's a good argument.
That said, are you going to the bowl game?

I live in Houston and know a lot of aggies. So for my own selfish reasons it's a fun match up. With Michigan state other than being a top 10 team there's really no intrigue playing them. It's not like they are the big boy in the big 10. They are just a middle tier team having a great year this year. It's like someone playing Ole Miss they would rather beat an LSU, Bama, or Florida to say they beat one of the premier programs in the sec.

Why does everyone want to go to the cotton bowl so bad?
Because it prolongs my football season 7 more days. I know that New Years will come and go, and I still have Tiger football to look forward to.
And as mentioned earlier is in a prime time slot.

1) About half the teams ranked ahead of us will lose..if we win, we will be ranked about the same (5 or 6) whether we play #18 or #8
2) Jerry World > the same ole from last year
3)we compete with A& M for recruits so beating them will help recruiting in the Houston market.
4) it a much closer drive for me.

What a boring argument for this thread, LSU should go to the Capital One and play the best team available, beating AM means nothing and if they lose it will be embarassing, and the argument LSU can recruit Texaswhich is why they should go is laughable, they will always follow Texas and Oklahoma for recruits, they get a lot more players out of Florida and that is where they should go

Really?
Where do you think the team wants to play and what are their reasons?

I respectfully disagree. A bowl game is a reward at the end of the season. What difference does it make beating a number 8 team or number 18 team at this point in time. It's not like the team is fighting for the bcs or anything.

How many times have you seen a team go into a bowl game that they're not real excited about playing in and just go through the motions?
I think if we go to the Cap One we come out flat and disinterested. I'd rather have us go to play a lesser ranked team in a bowl that the majority of the team and fans want to play in.
You can argue that isn't the way it should be, higher ranked opponent, yada yada, but the reality is the Cotton Bowl, this year, is a better bowl for us to be in.

Dallas frigid in the winter time? Thur - Sun forecast this week: Sunny every day, high's 68, 73, 63, 55. Yes there is a chance it might (repeat might) be in the 30's that day in January, but just as likely to be in 50's or 60's. This ain't Orlando but it ain't Chicago either. Cold day + the old outdoor Cotton Bowl = not fun. Inside Jerryworld, have a foam in the dome, weather not a factor. Hell it's only 2.5 hours west of Shreveport, how often do you hear of Artic conditions in S'Port??

so you're saying we'd come out flat and disinterested against the 8th ranked team in the nation, but pumped and motivated to play #18 ?? oh .. OK .. sorry, the players could care less if the 60 yard HD screen fascinates you ..

These are 20 year old kids who are looking at this bowl as a reward!
Stop putting your values on what they want. Do your homework. The sentiment is to not go back to the Cap One Bowl again this year.
I don't give a crap what motivates the team to play. THIS YEAR, again, this team wants to and will play better in the Cotton Bowl

I want us to be in the cotton bowl because I will actually be making the trip if we are. I also have a lot of ties to A&M, and will probably know more aggies at the game than fellow tigers so it would be a pretty fun game for me.

where are you getting this "sentiment" from the team that they'd rather play in the cotton exactly ? I certainly haven't heard any ... how would playing 19th ranked A&M as opposed to 8th ranked Michigan St be a greater reward .. how do you know the bowl goodies that comprises 80% of the "reward" any player gets out of a game aren't far better for the Cap One .. putting my "values" on what they want ? you want to go because of a football stadium and could care less if we play SMU ... who's putting values on what they want .. please show us a link on this team sentiment NOT to go back to Orlando .. I think you're confusing fan sentiment ..
