At least we didn't get blown out last night. That was getting brutal.

Because the transition from depending on Juco players to 4 year guys means that you are going to depend on young guys who are developing those first 2 years.
And we haven't had any "1 and done" type players in LA to season the pot which adds to the grief

relying on the 4 year guys will be good in long run. problem is we dont have those 4 year guys yet. when ludwig derenbecker stringet etc are in year 3-4 then you can add a couple avg new guys and 1-2 studs and start seeing success .

Coaching has a lot to do with it. If you're state doesn't have the talent, you have to go else where to get it. Therefore, recruiting is also a major problem. He's had only one good season since he led the Tigers to the Final Four in 2006 and that was 2008.

There's some truth to this. With Lamont, we at least get to the NIT and possibly an NCAA berth the following year. He was THAT crucial on defense. Not since Oliver Brown and Bernard Woodside had we had a g/f that good on defense.
Also, LLoreda's injury and attitude in 2004...if we beat Florida (which we did), but Lloreda stays 100 percent, we could have done a LOT of damage in the tourney. Instead, we left it all on the court in Gainesville and win 1 of our final 8 games. That season may have springboarded us.
Tons of reasons and you can go back to various points. Attrition from Brady following sanctions...Randolph staying one year that meant little...various recruits like DJ Augustine and KC Ross-Miller - one single atom in space moves the other way and they're both playing for LSU.
Bottom line, our fortune cookie reads "You're shite outta luck."

If you're talking about the 08-09 season, then you do know Trent Johnson was LSU's coach that season?
07-08 was when Brady got fired (and the team wasn't very good)

This is not a knock on Johnson but, We do need a Coach that recruits with the heavey hitters and that will mean going out and hiring a Coach that is respected as such. Do not expect to play with the big boys unless you have a Coach that can recruit with the big boys.
LSU is too respected of a competitor in all Sports not to have a Basketball Coach that represents that respect, it is embarrising to say the least and why the Athletic department does not feel this way is beyound me. LSU has never been GREAT in Basketball they have been good at times but, never great as in Basketball Champs great.
If LSU ever wants to compete year end and year out they have to start with a Coach that reflects that and going after these want-a-be great Coaches is not going to get LSU there. There are too many great Coaches out there that would love to come to a program such as LSU to create a winning program with the avid Fans LSU has. JMHO!
I still say no matter the arguement it starts with a great Coach and if we are not going there then stop with all the talk of wanting a winning program in Basketball! Period!

shhhhhh...don't tell anyone, but we aren't a basketball school

LSU can be and is a basketball school. Texas considers themselves a football school, but look at their basketball program since turn of the century.
We went to the postseason from 1981 thru 1993...and 2 final 4's in there. We're not outdated. We can be that same program.
Maybe the problem is the ASSISTANT coaches. Are any of them go getters and no-sleep madmen when it comes to recruiting? I really know nothing of any of them except that love to grab some drinks at Walk-On's.
Back in the day, Ron Abernanthy and Johnny Jones were bloodhounds on the recruiting trails. Dale had a system...he'd take Europe and Africa; Ron would take the west and east coasts; Johnny and Craig Carse take the state of LA and deep south. It worked.
Brady had Butch Pierre and used CT, Jr. like a cheap whore...but in a good way.
What are the backgrounds on this current staff's recruiting abilities? How did they get kids to come to Nevada? How did they keep kids from buying back into the UNLV and Fresno State programs?

LSU's a "football" school, but we've managed to get lightning in the bottle before with men's basketball. The women's program was pretty steady for a while, we've had other great programs like track and field, I just don't understand why the same football/state university passion doesn't translate to LSU basketball. You would have thought maybe in a weird way having the hornets in new orleans would increase the state's basketball reputation in the slightest of ways.
I don't see Trent Richardson anything other than a failure at this point in time. Brady at least had some very good years.

You mean those avid basketball fans that don't sell out the PMAC when the team wins the SEC with a 13-3 record in conference?
